Sound impossible? It's not.
Before long you'll be giving them away yourself.

That's where you'll put your new boat.
Our slip costs $200 a month because it's a 30 foot slip.
Our bowsprit is a lot of that length. We could saw it off to save rent, but it's a great thing to ride on.
Some marinas don't allow wooden boats because they don't like beauty or suffering.
Or boats older than ten years, or worth less than 40 grand or somesuch because they worship Moloch.
We found the Emeryville Marina, which is a righteous place.
Here's the application we filled out to get in.
It requires insurance, which in turn asks what marina the boat is in, which is a catch-22. more

In order to rent your marina slip you have to get insurance.
Get whatever the marina requires/recommends.
The following companies wouldn't sell us us a policy because the boat is too old.
Geico, West Marine, BoatUS which is the same thing, United Marine Underwriters.
Progressive insurance did it online with no hassles. Yay! It costs about $300 a year.
that's progressivedirect.com
I'm told www.hagerty.com is also good for insuring weird old boats, cars, etc. more

Most modern sailors sail because they love being on the water. Sailing is ranked as the 17th fastest-growing sport in the U.S., and it's estimated that more than 4 million Americans are recreational sailors [source: The Boating Channel]. The appeal of sailing is ageless: 40 percent of sailors are between the ages of 25 to 44, and roughly 17 percent are younger than age 17 [source: The Boating Channel].

Some adventurers, though, take their sailing hobby to a whole new level and go cruising. Cruising isn't a just a hobby; it's a lifestyle. When you hear about someone who is sailing around the world, they're cruising. Sailors who choose cruising live on their sailboats and travel for extended periods of time. Their vessels range from basic keelboats to large, multi-hull cruising yachts. Most boats intended for cruising have many of the comforts of home below deck, and depending on their size, may include beds, bathrooms, kitchen facilities and even entertainment systems. here

Professional yacht brokering is an appealing career for many people who have a maritime background and live close to the water. How does one go about becoming a yacht broker? What steps should you take in order to successfully become a licensed broker? Let’s look at some fundamental requirements one must consider on the pursuit to becoming a broker. here

Only a few states actually require new yacht brokers to have a license. States that do require one will need to see evidence of a background in sales, more specifically experience under another licensed broker. Another portion of states will require an administered background check in order to continue the licensing process. Next, yacht brokers may have to take out surety bonds in order to protect their clients and themselves in case of a financial emergency. After acquiring your license, it’s important to note that state rules and regulations state that you must renew your license pending a specific amount of time.

The Yacht Brokers Association of America strongly recommends that new brokers receive their CPYB (Certified Professional Yacht Broker). This certification is not mandatory for yacht brokering, but it puts potential customers in a more comfortable situation. To become eligible for certification, one must have at least three years’ in sales/yacht brokerage, history of using and maintaining legal contracts, required licenses, and proof of appropriate trust accounts. The certification process concludes with an exam that determines if one is fit to become a certified broker. here

Thus began the process of finding out how I could qualify for the Yachtmaster Offshore certification. Luckily, the RYA recognized my sea time, and my USCG qualification was accepted in lieu of the RYA’s theoretical requirements. However, I still had to do a practical test and get my VHF radio license.

Another one of the “fun” maneuvers was bringing our boat to within 150ft of a designated buoy in the middle of the raging Solent in very poor visibility, using only the depth sounder and a paper chart. We simulated very poor visibility by keeping the skipper belowdecks. here

Learning to sail is an organic process. Often we’re introduced to the sport by a family member or good friend who loves sailing and wants to share their passion. As such, one learns in bits and pieces. The problem is you can end up with lots of missing bits, and thus many sailors with decades of experience have huge gaps in their training. As it turned out, I was one of those sailors.

Another useful item I brought along was a tablet loaded with the latest Navionics chartplotter app and maps. The boat we trained and tested on had a built-in chartplotter, but it was annoyingly located at the nav station belowdecks, so you couldn’t use it while at the helm. For the record, RYA examiners don’t want you depending too heavily on electronic navigational aids during the course. (For example, you have to show proficiency at using paper charts and physically write down a passage plan). However, they will let you use electronic chart plotters as a backup, and actually encourage this. here
