Side note don't pull on the rope to help it go faster. It might help it die faster. more

Here are some pics of my setup. The bottom part is just screwed into the floor. On Parkers this is not an issue because there is wood so I just made sure it was sealed well. I'm not sure how that works on a defiance.

I use the Ladner pots not the Ladner Like POSs that some sell from China. Discovery Bay did stand behind them. I upgraded to the big boy after he explained that. Cost me another $100.

Crab is a sweet seafood delicacy enjoyed in a variety of preparations, most famously pan-fried crab cakes. These prehistoric-looking creatures live in salty waters around the world, such as the Chesapeake and San Francisco Bays on the American coasts. Typically, fishermen trap the crustaceans using bait placed inside a net, also called a "pot." Crabbers pull the contraption back to the surface by winding a rope attached to the top of the pot. While commercial fishing operations make use of motorized devices, an amateur can build a hand crank to serve as a crab pot puller. more

$50, would make a decent power head.

For those that don't know what pot pullers are, they are winches used for pulling crab and shrimp pots. Here's a link to some examples.

http://community.webshots.com/photo/36751360/36751453KOSgNU [links]

Make sure you're legal. Here in Florida you're not allowed to use a trap puller for recreational traps, only commercial.

The TRAC T10250 Pot Puller is a powerful, recreational crab pot puller that runs on 12-volt power with a lift capacity of 110 lb. Amp usage is low but the Pot Puller has what it takes to pull 1-3 prawn traps or 1 crab trap. The TRAC Pot Puller runs quietly and stores easily. The epoxy finish gives this puller added corrosion protection so it is ready for operation in harsh saltwater environments.
