In this manner, how do you manually raise a Mercruiser outdrive?
How does a MerCruiser outdrive work?
Hand the other end of the rope to the person on board. Grasp the bottom of the outdrive behind the propeller. Pull the outdrive up and hold it until the person on deck ties the rope onto a cleat, completing the manual raising of the Mercruiser outdrive.
K eep your boat stored out of the water. This is always good advice for several reasons. First, you don't have to worry about the dam thing sinking while your sleeping. Second, you won't get barnicles and crud growing all over everything and third, your outdrive components won't be destroyed by corrosion and galvanic corrosion.
H ere is a good one. Store your drive in the DOWN position. In the water or out. If you store the drive in the up position then you will deform your outdrive bellows, your trim cylinders will eventually sieze and if you're in the water, barnicles and growth will cover the ram rods.
Full tilt is really for trailering use.
Also, water will puddle in the housing in front of the prop and will corrode and possibly crack the lower unit housing. That would really suck.
