A new iridium alloy tip with a diameter of 0.4 mm is laser welded to the tip of the center electrode to make the center electrode.
This lowers the spark voltage, secure reliable spark, reduces the quenching effect, and improves ignition performance.
Iridium, like platinum, is a precious metal and has extraordinarily superior properties for a spark plug electrode, for example high-temperature withstand, high strength, and low resistance. In order to further improve oxidation resistance at high temperatures, Denso developed a unique new iridium alloy containing rhodium.

Mounted between the center shaft and insulator to maintain the airtightness.
Denso uses the glass seal method.
A special mixture of glass powder and copper powder is charged in the installation section for the insulator and center shaft and center electrode and melted at high temperature. This bonds the center shaft and the center electrode and fuses the insulator and the metal.
The sealing for both is good and the thermal ratio of expansion is appropriate, so even under harsh conditions gaps do not occur and good airtightness can be secured. here

In 1860, French engineer Jean Lenoir created what most closely resembles the spark plug of today. He combined an insulator, electrodes, and spark gap in a single unit. As part of his patent application for the internal combustion engine that year, he devoted one sentence to describing the spark plug. He refined this spark plug in 1885.

Each major element of the spark plug — the center electrode, the side electrode, the insulator, and the shell — is manufactured in a continuous in-line assembly process. Then, the side electrode is attached to the shell and the center electrode is fitted inside the insulator. Finally, the major parts are assembled into a single unit. here

Insulator material also can have a dramatic effect on spark plug performance. Research continues to find a material that better reduces flashover, or electrical leakage, from the plug's terminal to the shell. The breakthrough use of Sillimanite, a material that is found in a natural state and also produced artificially, has been succeeded by the use of more heat-resistant aluminum oxide ceramics, the composition of which are manufacturers' secrets. here

These are less common than others and feature silver-coated electrode tips. These do not last as long as iridium or platinum spark plugs as the metal is less durable. They are most often used in older European performance cars and motorcycles. here

Many car manufacturers are now using iridium spark plugs in their vehicles, so it’s important to stick with iridium when replacing the plugs rather than downgrading to platinum or copper/nickel. That could adversely affect the performance of the vehicle. more

The second letter of the Champion spark plug code (in this case an “L”) indicates the thread size and reach of the spark plug. There are three size spark plug threads and two reaches currently being used in motorcycles and ATVs. “L” indicates a 14 mm x 1.25 pitch size with a 1/2″reach. “N” indicates a 14 mm x 1.25 with a 3/4″ reach. “P” indicates a 12 mm x 1.25 with a 1/2″ reach. “A” indicates a 12 mm x 1.25 with a 3/4″ reach. “Z” indicates a 10 mm x 1.0 with a 1/2″ reach. “G” indicates a 10 mm x 1.0 with a 3/4″ reach.

Spark plug codes tell a lot of useful information about the spark plug, however, each spark plug manufacturer uses different codes. Here are the most common spark plug codes by brand.

The “R” indicates a resistor type spark plug. Resistor type spark plugs reduce the amount of radio frequency interference (rfi) that can cause ignition misfires and static on the radio, if so equipped.

Note; Do not use a projected tip spark plug where it is not called for as it could contact the piston and cause catastrophic engine damage.
