I would much appreciate any advice from someone that has done this work before and could advise me on the best way to remove the engine. The way I see it is I have 5 options, see below (Also, I have pictures attached showing these locations to give a visual): here

1. Remove entire engine and v-drive in one assembly from boat by unbolting all engine and trans mounts and uncoupling the v-drive from the prop shaft
2. Unbolt the engine from the bellhousing, leaving the trans/v-drive (not sure is these two are one in the same or not. please correct me here)
3. Unbolt the engine and bellhousing from the trans/v-drive
4. Unbolt the trans/v-drive in shown location 4
5. Unbolt the trans/v-drive in shown location 5

make sure that you inspect the cutlass bearings (strut bearings/bushings) before you put the shaft back in, if they're worn, you're going to want to replace them to save work later. here

inside that coupler you'll see a nut that holds the driveshaft to the coupler. there may be a cotter pin to prevent it from totally backing out. remove it. remove the nut. you'll most likely need to use a block of wood to keep the prop from spinning. more

much easier to just remove it, plus you're going to have to get a new one on there anyways, so you might as well just do it the right way.

your driveshaft may be offset from your rudder to make life easier at this point. if not, you'll have to remove the rudder. (There's 1 bolt on the rudder arm inside the boat that when you remove it, the rudder should come off) if your trailer has enough clearance you're ready to go. otherwise you're going to have to figure out how to lift the boat up until the rudder can come all the way out. I used a floor jack and a few 2x8's under the transom to lift the boat. here
after you put the shaft back in, make sure the engine alignment is good. (do a search on shaft alignment in this forum and you should find the procedure). here

Unscrew the mounting bolt on each end of the drive shaft with the two crescent wrenches. Tighten one crescent wrench on the nut and one crescent wrench on the bolt head to unscrew them with ease. here

When the transmission fails or if a bushing goes out on your ATV, you need to remove the drive shaft in order to repair the four-wheeler. The drive shaft is the main shaft connected to the transmission on the bottom of ATVs. Removing your all-terrain vehicle's drive shaft can easily be done with a few tools in your own garage--and it saves you the pricey mechanic's bill.

Pull the spring-loaded safety pin out with the pliers, then slide the drive shaft off on each end. here

Drive the ATV up on the ramps, turn it off and remove the key. Place blocks of wood behind the ATV's rear wheels to prevent it from rolling off the ramps.
