Technically if you replace the engine you can reset the hourmeter because it is brand new. Nonetheless the owners should record the previous our reading and devoted to the next buyer as well as explaining what work was done to justify replacing the hourmeter
As a buyer, I would like to know accurate hours as its one of the only metrics you can use to understand the use of boats. [links]

Not sure about the legality as it pertains to boats, as it certainly is not legal on automobiles.
I realize this isn't a BIG deal , but I'd like to have it close, just so I don't have to remember to add 50 hrs, each time I look at it. [links]
How can I set to hourmeter on the new one. I got 3 poles on the back : IGN , SIG , GRD . I hooked up 12v to IGN(+) and GRD(-) , and I got the hourmeter to power on and show me 0.0. hrs, but after a couple hrs connected, it was still @ 0.0 hrs. The only thing left I can think of would be to put 12v to SIG and GRD , or maybe 12v to IGN And SIG and GRD. But, I don't want to damage it, so I'd thought I'd solicit y'all opinion/advise.
Re: new tach/hourmeter ; howto set the hours more
Hey, Silvertip.
thanks for the reply. I read in a thread on another site that I would need a 'signal generator' set run up the hrs. I dont Know, but can guess that this would simulate the tach singal, and therefore allow the hourmeter to think the engines running. Unfortunately, the post did not say what type of signal or give any paramaters. Anybody have any ideas ? Still no response from the vendor. I called my local speedometer shop, but once they heard 'boat' , they didn't want anything to do w/it. [links]
Any ideas ? I've emailed the vendor, w/no response.

Love that movie! Great flick for one liners! here
I have just faced the same dilema all new gauges fitted to the Generator control board, the old ones were manky and not working correctly, the hour meter was the only one that appeared to function properly. more

Enable start and stop times if you wish and enter dates and times if you wish or let it start immediately and run forever.
Otherwise record the actual hours in the ships log so that you can give provenance to the figures in your new one. Other than that it really does not matter. I don't think that I would bother to advance the engine hours (I have just fitted one - but have no idea what hours the engine has done so far
If you had fitted a new engine you would want to zero the hours running meter, surely? [links]
