The DynaTek Dyna S module/sensor operates on 12-1/2 to 15 volts negative ground, and must be used with a minimum 3.0 ohm coil or module will burn up. Using a coil with less than total of 3.0 ohm of primary resistance for a long period of time will cause the module to overheat and the engine may misfire until it cools down, or the module/sensor might fail prematurely. A metal conductor coil-to-spark plug wire, and non-resistor/copper core spark plug should be used. If the voltage drops below the minimum requirement for either module/sensor, the engine may idle well, but not rev up, or the engine may run erratic. Either module/sensor can be used with a standard-output/stock or high-output/performance ignition coil, as long as the coil has a 3.0 ohm internal primary resistor, or a ballast resistor is connected that totals 3.0 ohm of resistance. These module/sensors should not be used with magneto-type armature ignition coils, being magneto coils have a 1.0 ohm internal primary resistor. A metal core conductor coil-to-spark plug wire can be used with either module/sensor.

FYI - I've been to lots of car races, and truck and tractor pulls through the years, and I've noticed that when most drivers start the engine, they would crank it over first with a push-button switch, then flip the ignition toggle switch on, and the engine would start every time without hesitation. This is because the engine is (obviously) high compression AND with a fixed or "set in the fully advanced position" ignition timing. Cranking the engine this way prevents it from kicking back, and it prevents damage to the aluminum starter motor housing. - Brian Miller

I have a new NOVA II module and was unsure if it would work with the Tec engine. I believe the NOVA II is the same as the MEGA fire. My engine has a new coil and strong magnets.

I don't think the condensor would do anything. If you still have the points available then try to get it working with the old parts then you can install the module conversion. here

With the old parts I have spark, fuel, compression and air. But the engine won't fire up. Just coughs and sometimes backfires or kick backs. Tried adjusting the timing (which I beleive is the problem) to specs in the manual but had no success. Hence, the attempt at the module. Basically, I seem to have exhausted all possibilities and this engine isn't going to run again.

Most of the ignitions being replaced are old Capacitance Discharge Ignitions , CDI or Solid State Ignitions, SSI. These ignition systems, like magnetos, get their electrical power from flywheel magnets rotating past a coil in the ignition system. To shut the ignition off, this coil is connected to ground by the key ignition switch. This is most unsuitable for the replacement ignition which gets its power from the battery and is turned on / off by connecting or disconnecting the battery power. The three installation options below are ways around this fundamental problem.

In the last count, about 500 Tecumseh engines have been converted, though most use the first generation Bobbin Trigger and second generation Modified 610906. There is a List of Material at the end. I can provide the Trigger Coil, edstoller at earthlink dot net.
