Considering this, what is the gap between the flywheel and coil? here
011. This gap is between the magnet and the coil. Turn the flywheel so it is aligned with the coil. Then slip a feeler gauge in between the two and loosen the coil crews. [links]
Similarly, how do I fix no spark? If you do not see a spark, there is an ignition problem. Remove a plug wire and insert an old spark plug or a spark plug tester into the end of the wire (the plug boot). Place the spark plug on a metal surface on the engine, or ground the spark plug tester to the engine. Then crank the engine to check for a spark.
The only safe way to test for spark is to use a spark plug tester tool. If a coil problem is suspected, measure the coil's primary and secondary resistance with an ohmmeter. If either is out of specifications, the coil needs to be replaced. A coil can be easily bench tested with a digital 10 megaohm impedance ohmmeter. [links]
In a vehicle, an ignition coil converts the 12 Volts of power from the battery to the thousands of volts that are needed to fire the spark plugs. This part is essentially an induction coil and, simply put, a high voltage transformer. While ignition coils are generally very sturdy and reliable, over time, due to heat, vibrations, and faulty insulation, they can become damaged.
For the spark plug test, start by removing the wire from the plug. It is advisable to refer to your vehicle’s service manual to ensure that you are removing the right wires. Then, with the help of a spark plug socket, remove the spark plug. here
There are two ways to test the ignition coil of your vehicle: the spark plug test and the bench test. While the spark plug test is effective, the bench test is more thorough. Why? In the first, you are relying on the spark to determine the condition of your coil; in fact, only in a no-spark condition would you be certain that your coil is faulty. In the second, you are relying on resistance readings and data to test the condition of the ignition coil. Here, even if there is only slight damage to your coil, your readings will indicate such.
Re: How to test Tecumseh Coil? more
Do coils typically fail? I've never had to replace a coil yet. I initially doubted that the coil would be bad. but I guess I might have been wrong.
Can someone walk me through the procedure to test the coil?
To further clarify. (and to hopefully stir up a response.

The ignition coil, a vital component of any vehicle's ignition system, is responsible for providing electricity to the spark plugs. When a vehicle will not start, misses often or stalls frequently, its ignition coil may need replacement. Luckily, a relatively quick, simple test can determine whether the ignition coil is functioning properly and thus whether a trip to the auto parts store or mechanic's garage is warranted.
