I installed new races, bearings, seals, and sleeves on both sides. I tightened them pretty good by hand and then backed them off so the wheel rolled easily and there was just a very tiny tiny play that you could barely feel when you wiggle the tire back and forth. I made sure to pack the bearings properly and the hubs are filled with grease just like they should be.
I just replaced the bearings in our trailer. One side was very loud and the race/bearings were destroyed.
I just took it for a test run and felt the hubs. They're pretty hot.. Not so hot I couldn't put my hand on them but they were pretty warm. I took it on the freeway for a few miles and back home.
How hot do hubs get under normal use? I guess I've never felt them before so I have no reference as to what "normal" is.

This is normally indicative of a bad caliper and/or a bad equalizer, which is not bearing-related. Severe looseness related to a worn or damaged bearing can cause excessive runout, which can cause uneven wear on the brake pads and/or rotor. The most common cause is a warped rotor due to the caliper not retracting. [links]
• Knocking or clunking.
• Wheel vibration and/or wobble. more
These noises are normally associated with tire, electrical or drivetrain components. If bearing-related, the noise or vibration is present when driving in a straight line, but intensifies when turning the steering wheel slightly to the left or right. Typically, the side opposite the rumbling is the defective side. more
There are many causes of abnormal tire wear. The most common are worn or damaged suspension components, misalignment, improper inflation or tire selection. While extreme bearing wear or looseness can cause abnormal tire wear, it is typically related to other failure modes.
• Snapping, clicking or popping.
