I moved down from a 24' Blackfin when I bought the 22' and expected to lose a lot of ride feel due to the Whaler weighing less than half of the Blackfin. I was amazed the ride from the 22 was very good. I have never regretted the decision. [links]

I apologize for the generality of the original post. outside of the sides, extra foot of length, fuel tank, and other obvious differences. What about actual v associated with both designs. I am trying to figure out which one would be a better boat for the Gulf of Mexico. There is not a thread actually discussing the difference between the two. Did BW change its design process between 79-80? The actual "smirk" looks extremely similar, but I know that even most minor differences in angles can dramatically change the way a boat performs. I am interested in knowing because the extra 20 gallons of fuel associated with outrage 18 is very appealing, but if the ride is better in a low pro (banana hull) 19' then that changes everything. Any input would be appreciated.

The 19 Outrage II version (1992-1995) seems to be less common than the original Outrage 18/19 versions. But for some reason I tend to notice more of them for sale down in the Gulf area, so it may be a model for you to consider. Good luck to you.

Again, all good feedback and I appreciate the help. I'll try to take both out for a ride later this spring. That'll be the big test.

At the end of the day your usage or needs will be the determining factor and budget as well. I hope the info offers some asistance to you and my advance apologies to all if I may have mis-spoken on some details. Do your research on both boats, options, and cost Winlessinnh and see what will work for you.

What models are you specifically considering?

I am not a Whaler owner (yet -- hopefully before the week is out I will be!) so take this for what it's worth.

As in answer to the OP both boat styles would fine for Lake Winni up North and even a Montauk with back/stern seats would be fine. So economics in my honest opinion would be a major factor in determination and not the style for a big inland lake. You already picked the better brand, forget the style/type, SUV, Minivan, or Sports they will all do what you are looking for. [links]

I was hoping someone could give me the fundamental differences between the Outrage and Dauntless series and what the pro's and con's of the two are when compared to one another.

We plan on going out of Hawaii Kai, Oahu to at least the 3 mile mark for fishing. And of course small trips around the Island. I'm thinking of the 19's. [links]

We are looking at getting a boat and what I am hearing is the Boston Whalers seem to be the best all around, low maintenance and high saftey factor. barring lack of stupidity. The question is : here

Does either handle better/different that the other out in deeper/rougher waters? Or any other factors to take into considerations? What kind of weather can they take? more

It should be noted that many Whaler models did not show in the literature until well after their actual introduction. For example, the Outrage 18 was introduced in May of 1981 yet there is no Outrage 18 in any Whaler catalog until the 1983 catalog. here

Let's think about this.
Do we think Boston Whaler would produce two 20 foot Outrage models during the same year?
I don't think so.. So, apparently they just changed the name from the V-20 to the Outrage 20 up until 1986 when they actually changed the hull to 20' 3" .
