(6) The Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation need not accept any application for assignment and/or affixing of a hull identification number for any boat which is a 1972 or older model boat or any boat which is a 1973 model manufactured on or before November 1, 1972 or, if no model year is known, which can reasonably be assumed to have been manufactured or assembled on or before November 1, 1972.

My 60 or 61 Lone Star does not have them or they were removed. It did have a cap. plate. more

HIN's were first required in 1972. Various registering entities had different ideas about what constituted a boats identification method and often it was just the name of the boat and year as was stated by the manufacturer. After the 1972 mandate they begin using the HIN just like they use a motor vehicles VIN. If your boat was manufactured before 1972 it would have been assigned a HIN when it changed ownership after 1972. The MIC portion of the HIN would have been the state abbreviation followed by the letter Z. The next 5 numbers are the boats serial number. If one wasn't present on the boat it would have been issued at the time of title transfer. The remaining numbers are date related with the last two being the date of manufacture. Sometimes its right and sometimes it's not.

Maybe a SN or HIN on the capacity plate if it had one. They weren't required either and often fell off. more

The hull identification number (HIN) on all boats built after November 1, 1972 is permanently affixed to the rear of the transom usually on the upper right corner. It is required by federal law and must appear on the registration application. more

The HIN consists of 12 letters and numerals at least one-quarter inch tall that indicate the manufacturer, hull serial numbers and/or letters, and model year and/or month.

I have heard suggestions of tryin to register it as "homemade", but i believe it requires FWC inspection along with receipts for the materials you purchased to make it, and it is clearly not homemade. I want to go about this the right way, and i just can't seem to see a way to get this done. Couldn't find anything useful on the FHSMV website. seems like everything requires a HIN.

My grandfather gave me a 14' jon boat that's been lyin around his yard for 15 or 20 years, and i'm in the process of fixing it up. It has never been titled or registered. and pretty much just sat as a yard decoration all these years. here

I've done this with a few other small jon boats and i've never come across one that didn't have any sort of Hull Identification Number or serial number on it. The only information i have is that it is made by Sears. I have combed every inch of it and can't find a stamp in the aluminum or any other info anywhere.

Anyone have any experience getting a boat titled/registered when it doesn't have a HIN or serial number of any kind? [links]
