Beautiful 1983 Hutchins Compac 16 Sailboat. Very Good Condition. The boat has never been bottom painted. I picked up the boat in Indiana this past November and due to an unforeseen event, have decided to sell the boat.
Equipment: The boat comes with a Hutchins trailer. The trailer has brand new tongue coupler, trailer jack, brand new tires (incl. new spare), new lights, and existing bearing buddies. I have a current Maryland title for the boat. The trailer has the Indiana title which can be signed over. The fiberglass is in excellent condition for the age of the vessel. Previous owner re-bedded all hardware 2 years ago. The rub rails are in great condition. The cockpit converts to a sleeping area with custom varnished wood inserts. Prior owner built custom aluminum mast and boom crutch. Also includes compass, brand new deep cycle marine battery (never used), with solar panel and charge controller, 12V interior dome light, solar vent fan (w/ light), wind vane, fire extinguisher, motor mount, anchor, owners manual, refinished tiller w/ cover, original quarter berth cushions in very good condition. Standing rigging is new and was installed by the prior owner. Original Sails are reconditioned and in very very good condition along with a Brand New set of sails (used 1 time), by Super Sail Makers in Fl. Also included are (3) different hatch covers. A screen version, vent version, and complete enclosure. Boat is equipped with all required navigation lights. Included with the sale is a vintage electric motor. Thanks in advance for your interest.

1988 Hutchins Com-Pac 23/3. A fantastic shoal-draft sloop to take you cruising around the bay. This Com-Pac is ready to sail and has many additional features such as:-2.25ft FIXED KEEL, no swing keel here-Self tailing winches-Roller furling headsail-Can sleep up to 4, most co . more
This Clark Mills designed boat is in very good shape, especially for its age. Com-Pac's are known to be very seaworthy and built like tanks; there's no wood/foam coring in the deck and hull to break down and cause delamination, and the gelcoat is very thick. This boat is not a performance sailboat; however it is very stable and is perfect for someone newer to sailing or the seasoned sailor wanting to have a more relaxing, worry-free boat. The interior was stripped, sanded, cleaned, repainted and all woodwork has a fresh coat of Cetol. The cushions have all been cleaned - it sleeps 2 people with space for a cooler and portapotty (not included). It has a shoal draft fixed keel and there's no centerboard, so there's no pins or pivoting mechanisms to maintain. The magic-tilt trailer has all new wheels/tires with about 300 miles on them, the bearings were repacked last year with new bearing buddies installed, the trailer bunks and carpet are new and new LED lights were added. The boat weighs 1,100lbs so expect around a 1,500-1,600lb towing weight. 2 sets of sails are included (2 mains, 2 jibs), along with everything necessary to get sailing (life jackets, fenders, docking lines, owner's manual, handbook, etc). The standing rigging currently on the boat is original and still appears to be in decent shape, but I will include a new-in- box, never installed replacement set as well. There is a very active forum for this boat (Com-Pac Yacht Owners Association), and the company is still in business so all replacement parts and upgrades (bowsprit, lifelines, etc.) can be purchased. The mast is light and can be stepped by one person, and the boat/trailer can fit in most standard garages. The boat has been garaged for over half of the time I've owned it, and has a fresh coat of wax on the hull. I'm asking $2,500 with a Honda 5hp motor, or $2,200 without. The 5hp motor is really too big for the boat, but it will certainly have no problem pushing the boat in the worst weather (the old Johnson 2 in some pictures is long gone). There is no title for the boat or trailer (boats under 17' don't need titles in Iowa), but registration for both is current and I will include a bill of sale. Full disclosure - it is a 35 year old boat so there are a few blisters on the stern, there's a gouge in the wood underneath the starboard berth, and the cushion covers are getting pretty thin. Otherwise, the boat is in fantastic shape.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.
Ballast / Displacement * 100 here
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize. here
Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )
