I have a 95 Camry LE (v6) and I'm in the process of replacing the water pump. One of the prerequisites for accessing the pump is crank pulley removal. User cdunn (thanks a bunch for the suggestions) provided me with info on the starter bump method for crank bolt removal (since I don't have an impact gun) and managed to fail at every attempt. When filming myself doing this, I would turn over the engine with the camera facing the crank bolt. I noticed that when the socket was on the bolt (and socket attached to breaker bar which is snug against my control arm) and I bump the starter, the crank doesnt make a full revolution. it seems to either get stuck - like theres not enough torque - or it senses something blocking it and doesnt turn. After removing the socket, and bumping the starter with nothing on the bolt, the crankshaft turns fine. help! here

If you are trying to turn the crankshaft while the timing chain is off, you may have an open valve that is hitting a piston. This can be a big deal and you can damage the valve if you try too hard. Normally you would set the engine up on the timing marks before removing the timing chain, and not turn the crank or camshaft until the new chain is installed. If the crank and cam are out of sync the valves can interfere. You can get everything lined back up by setting the crank in a position where all the pistons are down. 90 degrees off of TDC works for this. If you can’t turn it in one direction try the other. Then and only then can you turn the camshaft to get it into timing position. After the cam is set, you can bring the number one piston up to TDC by turning the crank. If you don’t have a lot of experience working with overhead camshaft engines, it’s easy to get into trouble working on the timing chain. It may be best to get professional help by contacting a mechanic and having someone look it over and help you figure out what to do. here

Press the small reset button on the disposal unit; this is usually a red button located on the bottom of the unit. The reset button works like a circuit breaker that automatically trips to prevent the motor from overheating. Pressing the button resets the little internal breaker. [links]

Plug the disposal back into the outlet, or switch the disposal's circuit breaker back on to restore power. [links]

Unplug the garbage disposal unit from the outlet it is plugged into. If the unit is hardwired and has no outlet, make sure the switch controlling the disposal is in the OFF position, and then turn off the disposal's circuit breaker in your home's service panel (breaker box). This ensures that the disposal can't be turned on accidentally. more

Run the cold water at the kitchen faucet, and then turn on the disposal. If it spins freely, you're done. If the motor hums but doesn't spin (and may shut itself off), it's probably still jammed. Repeat the same process to free the jam and reset the unit. If the motor won't turn on at all, it's likely that the disposal has burned out and needs to be replaced.
Use a flashlight to peer down into the sink opening of the disposal. You may be able to see the object jamming the impellers. If you see an obstruction, you can attempt to remove it by hand. Alternatively, you can use needle-nose pliers if you're uncomfortable with using your hand. (There's nothing sharp inside the disposer, including the impeller lugs, which are blunt metal.) here
It's much better to be safe than sorry here: Triple-check that the disposal is disconnected from power and cannot be turned on accidentally before moving on to the next step. If you can't find the breaker that controls the circuit, turn off your home's main breaker, which will cut power to the entire house. here

5. Check inside garbage disposal's grinding chamber.

The overload protector is located under the sink, on the bottom of the garbage disposal, facing the floor. It is a small square red button. If the overload protector has tripped, you will see the red button dropped down about a quarter of an inch (5mm). Gently press the red button. If it does not stay up, wait ten minutes and try again. more
2. Work the wrench back and forth in both directions. here

Look down into the garbage disposal using a flashlight. Do not place your hand into the garbage disposal. Pay special attention to the area around the outer edge of the garbage disposal's shredding disk where you see the little teeth. If you see anything in the garbage disposal, remove it using tongs or pliers.
