Pedestal seats give you the advantage of having a seat, but not being stuck with a seat that points in the wrong direction all the time, since a pedestal seat turns. The pedestal takes up less deck space than the box-type seating you see so often and can be installed in tighter spaces. Installation is as simple as drilling a hole and turning a few screws.

Use a 3-1/4 inch hole saw on an electric drill with a stop gauge to drill the hole where the center of the seat's base plate will set on the deck. more

Boat seat pedestals may need to replaced from time to time. The pedestal allows you to turn the direction you are sitting, and are great for fishing boats. You may need to replace worn out pedestals, or install new ones as you upgrade the seats.

You need to know where the wiring harnesses and fuel tanks are located before you pick a location. This will save you from causing expensive damage by drilling in the wrong place. If you have marine carpeting on the deck you may need to pull this back to inspect for these components.
