There are currently two versions of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 in the works, and they're both reboots. Here's why Disney's hitting the restart button.
The Curse of the Black Pearl was anything but a sure bet. Disney's previous two attempts at turning their theme park attractions into successful theatrical features (Mission to Mars and The Country Bears) had failed, and similarly big-budget Hollywood swashbucklers had been out of style since Renny Harlin's notorious flop Cutthroat Island in 1995. In the end, things worked out far better than Disney dared dream: The Curse of the Black Pearl earned positive reviews, took home $654 million at the worldwide box office (making it the fourth-highest grossing movie that year), and even landed five Oscar nominations, including a Best Actor nod for Johnny Depp's performance as the rum-swigging Jack Sparrow.
In the years that followed, Disney would release an additional four Pirates of the Caribbean sequels, all of which outgrossed The Curse of the Black Pearl in theaters. Critically, the films haven't done nearly as well and have yet to come close to scaling the same creative heights as the first movie (much less, match or exceed it). Yet, because it remains the only successful in-house live-action series the studio has going right now (not counting its many remakes of its animated movies), Disney is heading back to the Pirates of the Caribbean well yet again. but this time, with a twist.
If Depp is finally hanging his Captain’s hat and sword as Jack Sparrow, how do you think Disney will breathe new life into this franchise? Sound off in the comments below, and be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news. here
Following reports earlier this week that Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were tapped to develop a new Pirates of the Caribbean film for Disney, it is looking likely that Jack Sparrow actor Johnny Depp is finished with his role as the iconic hero of the franchise.
According to Stuart Beattie, a credited screenwriter for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, he seems confident that Depp’s role as Captain Jack Sparrow is going to be retired from the franchise moving forward, which is looking to reboot with a new take:
Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea… including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.here
In recent years, Depp has been tied to controversy in his personal life which includes but is not limited to his marriage to actress Amber Heard and allegations of physical abuse against her before the couple divorced. Depp’s casting as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise from Warner Bros. Pictures and J.K. Rowling has also been controversial for similar reasons.
We’re closing in on three years since it was first announced the franchise’s most popular character and all-round 21st Century cinematic icon Captain Jack wasn’t part of the franchise’s future plans, and the Mouse House have shown no signs of budging. A direct sequel to Dead Men Tell No Tales and a spinoff hailing from Birds of Prey duo Margot Robbie and Christina Hodson remain in development, but that’s about all the information we’ve got. here
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything concrete in regards to the two new Pirates of Caribbean projects in the works at Disney, but the studio have made it perfectly clear that they don’t give a sh*t how many people sign petitions to bring back Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow.
However, we’re hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us Ben Kingsley was returning as Trevor Slattery in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings long before it was confirmed – that the door could be open for Orlando Bloom to return as Will Turner, which would set him up as the main legacy player of the new Pirates of the Caribbean era.
The series veteran did make a brief cameo in Dead Men Tell No Tales, which focused largely on his son Henry’s hunt for the Trident of Poseidon and desire to free his father from the Flying Dutchman’s curse. He succeeded, and the post-credits scene teased that Davy Jones wasn’t done with the Turner family just yet, which is one potential plot direction for the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean blockbuster to head. here
Well, hell broke loose on Johnny Depp with everything that happened around him in the Libel trial. He had accused a popular tabloid of Libel for calling him a wife-beater, n reference to his allegedly violent relationship with former wife Amber Heard. Soon he was told to quit Fantastic Beast by WB, and his hopes to comeback to Pirates Of The Caribbean were also crushed. here
Disney who announced Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow’s exit from the Pirates Of The Caribbean 3 years ago is not budging even a bit from their decision, no matter how many petitions fans file. Add to the mix the controversy around Johnny Depp and the studio will maintain extra distance just like many others. In that case, the thought that he will headline the future flicks in the franchise is rare, and that has reportedly profited Orlando Bloom.
Fans in no time took the responsibility to save his career in their hands and began the game of petitions and millions of fans signing it. But seems like that has not affected the studios who are now planning to give Orlando Bloom the centre stage. Read on to know everything you should about this surprising update of the day.
