I had the same issue a few weeks back. From memory the service kit is about £25. Includes new Joker valve pump kit etc. Ensure you have the right service kit (they vary slightly according to year range). Ensure you turn off the inlet and outlet secocks for the loo. Don the marigolds and remove the pump/handle mechanism, this entails removing the bowl flush pipe, the inlet supply pipe from the pump and the screws which locate the pump to its base and the outlet, (DO NOT REMOVE THE OUTLET ELBOW). You can then service the pump mechanism on the bench, follow the instructions with the kit carefully. All you need is basic tools plus cleaning equipment & some petroleum jelly to lubricate the plunger seal. DO NOT use any oil based lubricants or household loo cleaners or you could damage the seals [links]

after reading some old posts it seems like i may need the service kit, are these simple to fit? the pump has been quite stiff sometimes so could be due for a good tune up. here

is there a way of draining the water without pumping out so i can check the pipe for any blockages? have tried drain unblocking liquids but these are not flowing into the pipes. when operating it seems that there maybe a valve that is stuck closed so not letting the water out. i have taken off the top cover where the pump handle is but the this is full of water too so can't see down into the pipes. more

Correct operation of the joker valve on the discharge side of the pump is critical, but can be impaired by calcification, or by physical damage to the valve, as in this case. here

One of the more difficult problems to diagnose is that of the outlet pipework becoming progressively clogged up with calcium deposits. As this is a problem that manifests slowly it’s all too easy to fail to spot the early signs of impaired performance – you tend to slowly adjust to the new norm, until the system fails because the pipework has become severely restricted.

Most problems with marine toilets stem from a lack of basic maintenance, or an attempt to flush bulky foreign matter through the system. Keeping an eye open for the common problems listed below will help to keep the system working reliably.

Of course, there’s a second possible cause of getting sewage type smells in the boat – leakage on the outlet side of the system. It’s worth checking each of the joints in the plumbing with a dry cloth – this will help to identify leaks that may be too small to spot by eye. [links]

The valves at the exit of the pump are also prone to becoming gummed up with calcium deposits, which will eventually impair their operation to the point at which the pump no longer functions properly. The classic symptom of this is if it appears to be difficult (or impossible) to flush away the contents of the bowl – if the joker valve fails to seal, then as well as clean seawater being sucked into the pump, it will also tend to draw in the contents of the waste pipe. more

Hi, I posted this but got no replies? Is this a dumb question or am I on the wrong froum or does no one have any expertise in this area?

On my 2002 Rinker 342, my toilet was not flushing as quickly or efficiently as it once should so I decided to overhaul it. I discovered the discharge pump mounting base had some cracks so picked up an entire new motor/impeller/macerator assembly from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000O8AZOO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I also replaced the joker valve. Upon re-assembly I now cannot get the toilet to pump water out. I am guessing that it is not self-priming. Any thoughts on what I should check next?

This time I have double checked the o-ring and took it all apart and re-assembled a few times. I have even filled the bowl higher and tried pumping out for a longer period of time thinking that might help but it did not. I am returning to the boat today with a plunger to try and force the water through everything in an effort to prime the pump. I will double check that my o-ring seal is intact and that the holding tank vent is not blocked.

Over the years I have replaced this motor twice with no issue.
