I've read 55 mph. Speed usually drops off after new. My 203 currently tops at 45. The 189 FS is the 186 cc hull. So fair comarison there too. But mid 50 for sure. Fast!

Alteratively the 203 FS would run fine with a 130 HP IMO, or the 135 HO etec that makes 150 hp. Save a few bucks there. Still hit 40.

Some factors to consider. Price (each FS model seems to go up $10K-15K, starting at around $27-30k for the 189). Also, consider how far you're trailering and over what terrain and what you're pulling it with. My mid-size SUV (Ford Explorer) is rated for 5,000 lbs. The 189 is about 3,100 lbs GVW and it works, but it's not optimal and I wouldn't want to be pulling much more (if you live 2 hrs away from the coast like I do and have hills/mountains to traverse you don't fly up those hills). You may need to buy a larger tow vehicle, especially with the bigger models, depending on your towing conditions. The 203 is about 400 lbs heavier than the 189 in the water (2400 vs 2800) and about 700 lbs heavier on the trailer (3100 vs 3800), assuming both have a bimini top and aluminum trailers. If you live close and it's flat, no problem with even a mid-size SUV. Also, where will it be used primarily? If mostly off the coast and out in bigger waters and with a growing family, you may want to consider the 203 (or larger) for higher gunwales and a more stable ride and platform. For mostly lakes, rivers, bays and some coastal work on good days the 189 is fine.

One can not cruise along the ICW from Florida to Maryland without discovering that one of the most ubiquitous center console brands on the water is Key West.
