When asked what inspired him to travel, Riley’s reason resonated with many of us: “When you finish school you save up as much money as you can in as short a time as possible and travel around for as long as you can before the dreary sameness of ‘life’ rears its ugly head and you find yourself watching T.V. during dinner and working 10 hours a day. Personally the actual inspiration was the guys a few years older than me telling me stories of their travels.” If you are wondering where did Riley get the money for this global adventure, the answer is very simple – he worked hard for it for eight years, alternating between mines and offshore oil rigs. here

“The dreary sameness of life” is nowhere to be found with a view like this

The first stop on his voyage was Croatia and after that Greece and the Aegean Sea where, as destiny would have it, he met his “partner in crime”, the lovely Elayna who also happened to be a dreamer and who also had no idea about wind, weather and sailing. As Riley puts it, sailing has been “a really steep learning curve” for both of them. here

How did this happen? How did we get here? Seriously what the hell, I’m sailing around the world! It’s the first time I’ve ever thought about this, as if I were a stranger looking at our situation for the first time.. with totally new, fresh eyes. Join us as we sail downwind in some big swell to take shelter in the Delaware Bay.

This is how we do it these days. We make videos and sail. Once upon a time Riley worked offshore in Australia on Oil Rigs for nearly a decade to save up for our original boat. It is hard to understate how amazingly grateful we are to our crew of supporters who have become a bit of a family to us now that we have met so many of you. As we explain in the video we would love for you to join us. For those of you who are already a part of the crew, we THANK YOU for getting us this far, let’s see what the future holds 🌎⛵✨ here

We LOVE your videos and wait each week for a new one. You have inspired my husband to restore our 40′ single hull boat, adding a wheel to replace the old tiller and renovate the interior, fixing the teak deck and engine. It had been sitting in a yard for about 10 years with little attention, waiting for time to renovate but now it’s in our front yard …much to our children’s chagrin. I am a good wife…hahaha… and we love to sail , some of our happiest memories are of our sailing the New England coast in the summer with our kids from 6 months to 16. – from Long Island sound to Block Island to Nantucket to Maine.
So excited for you two and want to offer our home in Grenada, high on a hill over looking Magazine beach for your wedding or a just a retreat when or if ever you get back down – check it out on VRBO ( Beautiful beach front – Tamarind House #1139182) My Dad was a doctor down there and bought the land way before there was an airport or Sandals La Source and we’ve fixed it up for family ( and friends) to enjoy
Sail on and keep those great adventures & videos coming <3 Pam & Bill McGuinness

I’ve always liked the look of the Minicat – http://www.minicatamaran.eu – the smallest model is only 29kg

Get Riley to set up small sail in dingy for Lenny to practice in when he is a bit older. It will be slow and stable! Regards to you all Richard.. [links]

Those are neither dophins nor orcas (at like 2:45-3:00). They are ‘false killer whales’. Only saw them for the first time myself this time last year on a whale watch in Maui. The whale warch crew was super excited because they are pretty rare (like around 275 known ones in the HI islands if I remember correctly). Goodonya for addimg those to your wildlife spotted list! here

That’s a lot of days of sailing. Hope we calculated that correctly….Join us back in the Azores as we slowly make our way towards Sao Jorge! We catch up with Pete who you might remember helped us out with some rigging back in this episode and Andre gets us out on a Hobie catamaran which was great fun. Hopefully we can have something small for Lenny to sail once he gets a little older. Any ideas of something suitable that wont take up too much room? Be sure to let us know in the comments.

We sailed with our son – we left home in our yacht when he was 2 1/2 and returned to the UK when he was 8.
I would suggest that every anchorage you visit you find other children for Lenny to play with (as soon as Covid permits) A kayak was his first transport, it gave him the freedom to meet up with his friends on nearby boats but that was at age 7 here
