Finding the parts cheap is the key. FWIW, a 6 hp in a long shaft is kinda rare. I don't think you would have much trouble selling or trading it for what you want. here

Never done one as new as yours, but on the older motors the swap entails the exhaust housing/leg extension, driveshaft, water tube and shift rod connector. If you do your own motor maintenance it's not hard to do. helps to have a good manual and be familiar with your motor.

Depending on whether it has a one piece shift rod or an extension, you will no doubt need he shorter drive shaft. I just did my 1975 25hp, all I needed to do was lose the shifter rod extension, water tube extension, and install a short shaft drive shaft. The hardest part was finding the drive shaft.
