My brother bought a G3 1656 in the spring of 2017. I have been on it twice and operated it once. You'd think there wouldn't be much difference in his 1656 and my JRJ 1754 but there is a lot of difference. here
Even though this is not the same boat maybe this will help. In the summer of 2016 I had pretty much made up my mind the G3 1656 was the best all around boat for the money so I made plans to buy one in the early spring of 2017 but good fortune lead me to a used 1754 JRJ in the fall of 2016. so I didn't buy the G3. here
I would have been "just satisfied" had I bought a 1656. I like the forward center console and without the live well there was enough room for two to fish. It would have been nicer if it had rod lockers. I quickly realized at the time I was considering the 1656 the 1860 would have been a better choice. I would have been sorry I bought the smaller hull and even sorrier to find out for half of what I paid for the G3 I could have had a used custom hull. more
Here is the thing when buying a new larger production hull. As long as you stay small with the smaller jet you can get into one for under $20K
Within a month of buying the G3 he took out the live well and he did it in a way it looked like an OEM job. My brother always complained about the lack of space on the boat. He has always liked a stick steer panfish style hull so I was sort of surprised he bought a forward center console. The outboard delivered adequate power. It is by no means a three person boat. I can do three on my 1754 but its tight.
