Our new Remote Operate Vehicle (ROV), developed by Boxfish Research, is available on request for any charter onboard SuRi. With the ability to dive down to 300m and film in 4K quality, the ROV is ideal for underwater exploration, marine life encounters, and incredible photography opportunities. [links]
Citizen Science opportunities involve vessel owners in smaller-scale marine research initiatives that do not require a scientist to be aboard. SeaKeepers works with a number of institutions, including Florida International University (FIU), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and SoFar Ocean to facilitate ongoing oceanographic measurements.

Our illustrious leader started his working career in 1987 when he joined the South African Military Services, where he qualified as an Officer and Instructor at the Mechanized Leaders Wing. Shortly after he left the military, he moved from Johannesburg to Cape Town, where he enrolled in a Commercial Diving program and thereafter worked for three years as an offshore commercial diver. Ending his diving career in 1993, he joined the yachting industry and took his first command as Captain in 1999 aboard the 114ft yacht “Mamosa”, then as build Captain of the 164ft yacht “JeMaSa” built at Hakvoort Shipyard in Holland. JeMaSa was also owned by the owners as SuRi, making Juan the longest standing crew member with the owners. more
Today, his 25+ years of experience stand him in good stead. He has endless enthusiasm for SuRi and its operations, and he enjoys working as a team to explore the less visited, more adventurous cruising destinations. As captain, Juan has logged over 250,000 nautical miles and has completed two circumnavigation trips around the globe. With this global cruising experience, he also understands how to make yachting fun for the guests and the crew alike. With this in mind, Juan has a very good reputation for longevity amongst his crew. He is well seasoned and an exceptional seaman. Clinton grew up on the east coast of South Africa in a small coastal town called Ballito where he learned to swim before he could walk. Naturally, water sports became his passion, particularly surfing and free diving. He is also an avid sportsman on land. After graduating from school, he began to set his path in the boat building trade. Four years into his trade, he emigrated to New Zealand to continue on his career path and broaden his knowledge.
She is built with Steel hull and Aluminium superstructure. With a cruising speed of 10 knots, a maximum speed of 11 knots and a range of 6,000nm from her 241,256 litre fuel tanks, she is the perfect combination of performance and luxury. [links]
The 63.39m / 208' Conversion expedition 'SuRi' was built in 1978 by Halter Marine and last refitted in 2016. Previously named Fierce Contender her luxurious interior is designed by Jeffrey Botwin and her exterior styling is by Joseph Artese Design.
SuRi's interior layout sleeps up to 12 guests in 7 rooms, including a master suite, 4 VIP staterooms, 1 double cabin, 1 twin cabin and 1 convertable cabin. She is also capable of carrying up to 17 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
