If its the oil recommended by your engine manufacturer, run it at manufacturers spec (which is generally 50:1). If its 2 stroke from elsewhere, run it at 25:1. You generally find that is the requirement in the small print of your waranty. If you foul plugs or get poor performance, you will need to either lean out the oil ratio, or change oils. Whatever you do, make sure it does not invalidate your waranty.

Okay BD'ers I need some help here.
I just bought an inflatable skiff with an older 2hp 2 stroke mariner outboard. It has a self contained fuel tank and there is some fuel in it now. The person who sold it was selling it for a friend and that friend is unavailable to get the mixture from. I have googled and searched and see anything from 25:1 to 50:1 . What mix does it take and what kind of outboard oil should I use? We are taking the boat out tomorrow and want the skiff running so we can do some exploring in lagoons and what not. There is fuel in the tank now and I am going to take it down to the harbor and see how it runs and put it on the boat. more
