I have the 50 horse, like the outboard, is quick, from what I have been told it has the same power head as the 40, but must be tweaked for higher performance, rpm, whatever I digress.

when on plane at full speed pull it back 1/4 throttle, might lose 2-3 mph, but it will help A LOT, with fuel consumption. Talking 20 gallons for a week on a Canada trip, or a fall week at the Chip.

like someone else said, you can buy a lot of gas for what a new motor costs, and for my 2 cents, watching my only two friends in the whole world, you couldn't give me a 4-stroke motor (talking 50 HP range) am always waiting for those guys. [links]

But what does that mean in hard numbers?

Well, now you can find out with Mercury launching a new Fuel Savings Calculator which allows you to easily compare FourStroke fuel efficiency to similar TwoStroke engines.

For example, the calculator will quickly tell you that replacing a recreational 15hp TwoStroke with a 15hp FourStroke will provide; more

Significantly improved fuel efficiency – it’s one of the big advantages FourStroke engines can give you compared to their TwoStroke counterparts.

I've been a member on this forum for almost 10 years, posting very little, but rather reading and absorbing as much knowledge as possible. I have a passion for semi-rigids and have had one for the last 10 years, in conjunction with my fibreglass boats.

An OptiMax would use the accronym ELPT

I know three individuals that went through multiple powerheads on their eTec outboards too. It just goes to show that there can be a lemon with any brand. here

You might be thinking of EFI versus OptiMax. here

The OptiMax is a more fuel efficient engine, it's the one that Evinrude is trying to compete with http://www.stuff4toys.com/john/OptiMax_Product_Literature.pdf here
