If you find the adjustment, make SURE you don't raise the motor too far and crack the cowl. Those are over $1000 to replace. Make sure you never drop it in the lake either! here

Check if there's enough hydraulic fluid in the trim pump.

24-SSL (2012) Express w/6 strakes, awesome cable steering because I'm cheap, big gouge in pontoon where marina staff sideswiped their dumpster, redneck emergency toilet via bucket with a toilet seat glued to it (hey, its just a toilet), polished toons and a broken ladder strap. Hoping to log my 200th trip out this year (2018). here

150 HP (2013) Mercury Fourstroke with 15x15P SS Enertia (Thanks Todd!) - 41 MPH at 5800 RPM, light load. 39 MPH at 5700 RPM, heavy load. Love this motor.

I have a Merc 150, and it trims well out of the water. And I have the Express hull, which already rides bow-high. more

One of the key factors in being a successful do-it-yourselfer of any kind is knowing what you can handle and what’s best left to a professional. Fortunately, checking and topping off the power trim fluid on your Mercury outboard is an easy assignment. Even if you’ve never done it before, you’re less than a minute away from knowing how to do it. [links]

In this Mercury Quick Tip, we’ll demonstrate the very simple steps involved in checking and refilling your power trim fluid. Just remember a few key things:

Remove the fill cap for the power trim reservoir an ensure that the fluid level reaches the bottom of the fill hole. If it does not, add power trim and steering fluid until it does so. Replace the fill cap. [links]

You can use the power trim system on your Mercury outboard to "balance" your motor's direction of thrust to provide both a safe and level ride and the best application of power for performance and efficiency. Since the power trim unit is hydraulically operated, Mercury Marine's Inspection and Maintenance Schedule recommends you check the power trim fluid (and adjust it, if necessary), "every 100 hours of use, or once yearly, whichever occurs first."

Turn on the power trim system. Use the power trim control switch to raise your motor. Engage the tilt support lock. here

Use the power trim control to raise and lower the motor several times. Check the fluid level again and add fluid if necessary. Repeat if necessary. more

You were also correct that despite bleeding my system I still had air in it. I guess since my system had been completely drained of fluid required a more thorough bleeding than the 4 or 5 compressions of the tilt cylinder as recommended in the service manual. I disconnected the tilt rod from the bracket and have been fully extending and compressing the rod with rests between to allow the system to self bleed.

Thanks for the response but what about the compatibility question/ Is Yamaha PTT fluid compatible with Mercury fluid?

I have had it confirmed that Yamaha and Mercury PTT fluids are 100% compatible with one another. more

NEW QUESTION: Will there always be some "foam" (actually more like tiny pin point sized bubbles) in the fluid after operating the pump or should I continue bleeding until the fluid is 100% bubble free? After lowering and then fully raising the motor when I remove the full plug some fluid will drain and have these bubbles. They quickly clear from the fluid in the drain pan.
