Swap the relays before you do anything and see if the problem goes to always going down, if it does get new relays. here
I have a 2018 Mercury 20 HP motor on my pontoon. I alsways leave the motor in the down position. Yesterday I notice the motor was tilted all the way up. I checked the motor and battery and found the battery was dead. I felt the pump for the tilt/trim and found it very hot. I guess somehow something shorted out causing the motor to tilt up. I hooked jumper cables to the battery and the motor immediately tried tilting up. Any suggestions as to what is wrong?
One of the switches is stuck in the up position, or a relay or wire is shorted. I would start by unplugging the blue wire with white stripe from the switch on the side of the engine. If it stops trying to go up, that switch is bad. If that doesn't help, try the same wire (blue with white stripe) where it comes out of the harness from the controller, if that fixes it the contrilloer switch is bad.more
Soimething is putting power to that blue/white wire or the up relay at that wire, or the relay is bad. You have to chase that down.
