I just purchased a fish finder and was wondering if anybody knows if it's a good idea to mount the transducer inside the hull of my aluminum boat. It says in the instructions that it produces good results on a single layer fiberglass boat, but I was wondering if anybody has tried it on an aluminum boat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Mounting fish finder transducer inside hull of aluminum boat
On an Aluminum boat I would use a 3/8 to 1/2 half aluminum block instead of wood or starboard. Also I used plain Silcone seal on my Aluminum boat back in 1981. I might use 4200 but to me 5200 would be too hard to remove if you wanted to move. Also do not mount the transducer too far from the motor. 18 inches out is more than enough.
I always find next to the pitot tube is a good spot. If you mount too close to the chines then at plaining speed you will find you loose bottom because too much air under the transducer.
3. About a 4mm (5/32 inch) drill, wrap a self-adhesive tape at 15 mm (19/32 in.) From the tip of the drill to avoid over-drilling. more
Before you leave the boat in the water for a long time, you need to check for leaks. [links]
There are many ways to install the transducer. There are also many ways to install a transducer on the forage or stern mirror.
Set the depth of a transducer in small steps. Positioning a transducer too far can significantly affect the performance of the boat and expose the danger of being hit by underwater objects.
