And by stuck, I mean. friggin stuck! It will not come out of the tip of the gun. Like at all. I've tried to twist is out. Pry it out. Wish it out. Nothing works. I had my crobar on it and still couldn't get it out. What the heck is going on?
How do you guys pull the gun off the zerk fitting? I used to bend the tip sideways to pry it off the fitting, until a few broke on me. Now I pull straight off, but it's much tougher of course. Still less work than replacing the broken fitting though.
I grease heavy equipment fittings every day and had a few stick but they all came off with a couple twists and jerk off center. All I can say is get some visecrips on it and go for broke. Worse case is a new grease fitting or a buddy. When you connected the gun to the grease fittting did it slip on or did you have to use force?

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie in this forum. I have a 2014 Yamaha F70LA, and I do my own winterizing (Canada, eh?). Last year, when I tried to grease one of the transom hinge nipples, my grease gun head would not release off the nipple. Eventually I broke the nipple, had to replace it, and could not get the broken part out of my grease gun head. So I bought a new flexible hose and head. Today, I was winterizing, attached the grease gun head to another nipple, pumped in some grease, and then experienced the same thing the grease gun head will not come off the nipple. I tried everything. eventually removed the flexible hose from the head. then I clamped some vice grips onto the grease gun head and absolutely reefed back on it as hard as I could. It absolutely will not release off the grease nipple. more
Anyone had this same experience? Am I doing something wrong. just pulling straight back on the head to remove it from the nipple. here
It gets stuck because the pin / bushing is clogged. It will continue to get stuck until you clear out the built up gunk. You can try solvent and wiggling the pin, driving it back and forth. There is also a grease gun like device that injects high pressure solvent to break up the clog.
To get unstuck, you just unscrew the hose or hard line from the grease gun, the pressure releases and it will come off like normal.
I think I need some help from some of you.
Here is my problem:
For the past few months I have been having a real hard time greasing my BH75 (backhoe). I connect the grease gun real easily, pump the grease, but then when it is time to come off, it doesn't want to come off. It is stuck.
I will wiggle the grease gun tip back and forth, back and forth, while pulling on it and NOTHING.
I need to use Vise grips to hold on to the grease gun tip (chuck?) in order to get it out.
That is how I broke a few nipples so far.
I have replaced the Grease Gun tip with a NAPA tip and still no improvement.
I went as far as connecting the new Grease Gun tip to a grease nipple without being connected to the grease gun hose and it still gets stuck.
There has to be a better way of doing business.
I am pretty puzzled at this point.
Any help? more
The coupler tips (i.e. the part that snaps onto the zerk) on most grease guns are adjustable to fit different size zerks. If this adjustment is cranked down all the way it will allow you to install the coupler onto a zerk but not remove it. Try turning the case of the tip while holding where it screws onto the hose. You should begin to see some really fine threads on the casing itself (i.e. not where it screws onto the hose). Adjust the tip as needed to fit your different size zerks - it only needs to be tightned just enough to where grease does not squirt out around the zerk when pumping grease. here
