The aim of this study is to investigate the perturbation effect of parallel-plate ionization chambers on the buildup dose measurement in transverse magnetic fields, using Monte Carlo (MC) simulation. The NACP-02 and ROOS parallel-plate chambers and a PTW31010 cylindrical chamber were modeled for buildup dose measurement in magnetic fields, using the EGSnrc/cavity code. The irradiation condition was set to a 10 × 10 cm 2 field in a water phantom at a source-to-surface distance (SSD) of 100 cm, using 6-MV photon spectrum. Magnetic fields of 0 0.35, 1.0, 1.5, and 3.0 T were applied perpendicularly to the direction of the photon beam. The overall perturbation factor PQ,B for the ionization chambers in the magnetic fields was also calculated. The dose to water was enhanced with increasing the magnetic field strength at a depth of less than 1 cm. Over a depth of 1.5 cm, there was no significant difference in the depth doses with and without magnetic field in water. The maximum depth dose (%) for the NACP-02 and ROOS chambers at 1.5 T was higher up to 12% and 14% than the maximum depth dose at 0 T, respectively. The depth dose curves of a PTW31010 chamber have a similar tendency to those of water. The PQ,B values for each chamber were the largest at the phantom surface. The transverse magnetic field has a greater effect on the dose response of the NACP and ROOS chambers than that of the PTW31010 chamber in the buildup region.

High accuracy code systems are necessary to model core environments with considerable geometry complexity and great material heterogeneity. These features are typical of current and innovative nuclear reactor core designs. Advanced methodologies and state-of-the art coupled code systems must be put into practice in order to model with high accuracy these challenging core designs. The presented research comprises the development and implementation of the thermal–hydraulic feedback to the Monte Carlo method and of speed-up mechanisms to accelerate the Monte Carlo criticality calculation. Coupled Monte-Carlo calculations can serve as reference solutions for verifying high-fidelity coupled deterministic neutron transport methods with detailed and accurate thermal–hydraulic models. The development and verification of such reference high-fidelity coupled multi-physics scheme is performed at the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) in cooperation with AREVA, AREVA NP GmbH in Erlangen, Germany, on the basis of MCNP5, NEM, NJOY and COBRA-TF (CTF) computer codes. This paper presents the latest studies and ameliorations developed to this coupled hybrid system, which includes a new methodology for generation and interpolation of Temperature-Dependent Thermal Scattering Cross Section Libraries for MCNP5, a comparison between sub-channel approaches, and acceleration schemes. more

A new approach to model adsorption in heterogeneous phase system has been proposed. Three truncated carbon nano tubes and argon are selected as sorbets and sorbent respectively and located into a canonical ensemble which is a cubic box. The length of carbon nano tubes was firstly built by using Hamada index and then the size of cubic box is determined and latticed. The new manner of distributing constant number of fluid particles into cubic box at initial state for an inhomogeneous phase system is randomly distributing particles into the spatial space without touching solid phase. The new approach is not only saving a lot of computational time but also new algorithms are generated so that trajectories of fluid particles can be traced in detail in pursuit of Monte Carlo simulation. Based on a number of fluid particles appears in specific domains, adsorption and desorption can be dynamically defined. In above approach, the interaction energy was calculated by Lennard-Jones 12-6 potential equation, rejection or acceptance of each fluid particle trial was assessed by Boltzmann factor according to Metropolis method.
