I've also got a Moeller tank that if it gets the slightest bit warm, it will swell to the point you would think it's going to burst. It will also make gas spew out of the motor side fitting. more
I've attached a picture of the fuel fittings for my 2002 Mercury 9.9. You can see the difference in the gaskets for the tank side fitting and the motor side fitting. This is the third time I've had the gasket on the motor side do this. Once it does, the trip is over, it will spew gas everywhere and the motor will not stay running. The fitting is made by Moeller Marine. Has anyone else ever had this problem? more
I Emailed Moeller and told them what it was doing and they said due to EPA regulations the tank couldn't continuously vent because it puts fumes in the air (or something like that). They said my cap needed to be replaced and to their credit they did sent me a new cap for free. However, I don’t think the cap was the problem, it’s these fittings.
I think it’s kind of ironic that the EPA made them change the design so it wouldn’t vent fumes, now it spews raw gas into the water. When I pull it up on the hill I have to disconnect the fuel line to keep it from dumping all my gas into the river.
Quicksilver Fuel Tanks. Quicksilver fuel tanks are available in either 12 litres or 20-litre sizes and come with quick-release fuel connectors. The Quicksilver fuel lines suitable for the quick release fuel tanks are available in 12ft or 8ft standard lengths or longer by request. Having a spare fuel tank, ready to connect is a great safety feature when out at sea or on a river. more
Remember to use Quickare fuel stabiliser in unleaded fuel, as research suggests that unleaded fuel goes off after about 3 weeks in a fuel can or fuel tank. more
