Salazar interrogates Henry.
In the meantime, Salazar's men noticed the pirate vessel. Unseen by the crew of the Monarch, the undead crew of the Silent Mary attacked the Ruddy Rose the moment she entered the Triangle. Attacked by the unstoppable supernatural force the pirates didn't have even the slightest chance for victory. In a few minutes the massacre was over. All the pirates were dead and their ship was quickly sinking to the bottom of the sea, leaving only a few debris and the black pirate flag on the surface. [2] [links]
Remember when Jack and Will commandeer the "Interceptor" by first making everyone believe that they are taking the "Dauntless"? Remember the "Black Pearl"? Remember the tiny little boat that's sinking as Jack makes his way to port? here
At least that's what the visitors of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, will be asking when the tall ship "Providence" sails into town this July. A replica of the 1770s Continental Navy warship, the ship appeared in the popular Pirates of the Caribbean movie. [links]
While docked on King Street (beginning in July!), the ship will be open to tourists to visit or take a cruise. It'll also be available for rentals so you can rent it for the day and re-enact all the Pirates scenes your heart desires. You'll even be able to drink like a pirate on one of their beer cruises hosted by Port City Brewing (drink up, me hearties, yo ho!).
"Providence" is modeled after a sloop captained by John Paul Jones, the father of the U.S. Navy, during the American Revolutionary War.
When we think of pirates, I bet most of us imagine "Pirates of the Caribbean," both the Johnny Depp movies and Disney ride. But the Disney version of pirates is kind of… Disney. It's fun. It's fantasy. It's guys wearing eyeliner swinging on ropes from ship to ship. People don't get killed. Everyone ends the day at a port bar chugging beer.
On April 26, 1717, the Whydah Gally was caught up in a violent storm. The ensuing damage caused the ship to sink off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Out of 146 souls aboard, only nine survived; two crew members and seven people who had been captured by Black Sam earlier that same day. more
The Whydah Gally's maiden voyage was in early 1716. When the ship left Africa, it carried roughly 500 slaves, gold and ivory.
It remains unclear exactly what caused the ship to sink, but there are no reports of vengeful pirating activity in the area.
As well as its role in the Pirates of the Caribbean, the Brig Unicorn also rose to stardom in 1970s TV series, Roots. [links]
The grand vessel had spent most of its off-air time serving as a restaurant and bar while docked in Rodney Bay, St. Lucia and was a popular local tourist attraction. [links]
During its film career, the Brig Unicorn served as The Henrietta in The Curse of the Black Pearl and as The Terrashaw in Dead Man's Chest. [links]
Appearing as several ships in the Disney series, the Brig Unicorn - first built in 1948 - survived pirates and sea monsters, but could not withstand a quick journey.
Pirates of the Caribbean returns to the big screen in 2016 starring Johnny Depp as the mischievous Jack Sparrow. [links]
