Overlooking Patchogue River is this groovy restaurant, where you can put your feet in white sand, sit under a palm tree, and enjoy live some live music. You can also look forward to more Hawaiian motifs, including pig roasts and luaus!
Whatever you are searching for, Block Island seems to have it: art galleries, hiking, fishing, bars, food and shopping are all available within arm's reach, and you'll be no farther than a 20-minute bike ride from the southern and northernmost points of the Island. You'll find most of the island's cafés and inns near Water Street in Old Harbor. If you're in search of oysters, steamers or lobster, you almost can't go wrong with any of the local restaurants. Finn's Seafood Restaurant is a popular place for seafood, and its fish market below the restaurant emphasizes their commitment to getting you a fresh meal. Take-out is also available. The Salty Dog on Water Street is a local institution, and offers a wonderful view of Old Harbor. The Orange Cat Café offers a variety of baked goods and some excellent coffee. For those with a sweet tooth, look for Blocks of Fudge on Chapel Street. [links]
Located to the east of Plum Point. The marina has East and West yards close together with most transients docked at the West yard, which is also where you can fuel up. From the marina, dinghy to the town dock or hail the Port Washington Water Taxi, which will take you just about anywhere. The taxi also gives harbor tours. The village itself is replete with diverse restaurants. One longtime favorite is the landmark fish house Louie’s Oyster Bar & Grille, a feisty dockside establishment that opened in 1905. La Parma is another well-regarded option for Italian food. For shopping that rivals Fifth Avenue, catch a cab to Americana Manhasset, a shopping area three miles south of town with designer brands and high-end restaurants.
A historic whaling town, Sag Harbor prides itself on being “unHamptons.” The Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum promotes the area’s rich culture. Foster Beach on Noyack Bay is a great place to unwind after a long day of fishing, clamming, or paddle-boarding in the harbor. Port Jefferson was an active shipbuilding center in the mid-19th century. The Mather House Museum provides a glimpse into the home of some of these shipbuilders, while the Maritime Explorium at Harborfront Park is located in an 1890s chandlery and now features hands-on interactive family activities. Theater Three on Main Street entertains all ages. At the marina, Admiral’s Deck features dockside dining while WAVE Seafood Kitchen serves indoors with a waterview. On any given summer day, downtown bustles with arrivals by boat, ferry, train, motorcycle and car. Restaurants, shops, galleries and markets are all within walking distance of the docks. There are farm markets on Sundays as well as free harborfront concerts, movies and children’s shows throughout the summer.
Present day Old Saybrook is as charming as ever, dotted with clapboard houses, boutiques, antique stores, galleries, and cafes that brim with history. The town’s coastal location affords ample opportunity for water activities. To the southwest is Harvey’s Beach, a perfect spot for the entire family to cool off on a hot day. Kayakers will love exploring the North Cove and South Cove, both very protected. In this bike-friendly town, cycle along the 10-mile loop out to Saybrook Point for breathtaking views, meandering along Long Island Sound as you go. Be sure to make a detour to check out Lynde Point Lighthouse. If you are in town during the last weekend of July, be sure to visit the 51st Annual Arts & Crafts Festival, which features more than 150 artists and crafters. And every Wednesday at 7 p.m. throughout the summer, Main Street hosts Concerts on the Green, a series of live music. Fresh Salt restaurant offers locally inspired dishes and handcrafted cocktails. Liv's Oyter Bay is a favorite for locals for seafood dishes, Penny Lane Pub is an English-style pub with live entertainment.
All year long, there are plenty of on-land attractions such as Theatre Three, The Port Jefferson Village Center and Harborfront Park. Plus, Port Jefferson is home to the Cross-Sound Ferry, which travels to Bridgeport, Connecticut.

There are several worlds for boaters to experience in this deep port village steep in shipbuilding history. Dock and take your pick at the many dining and shopping options. New additions to the scene include Muse Paintbar, an Asian fusion venture called Ocean 88 and a beer store, Craft at C’est Cheese. Or take in the popular summertime sanctuary known as Pirate’s Cove or Mt. Misery Cove, which is surrounded by huge dunes.
Shelter Island
Soak in all that Fire Island has to offer while avoiding traffic. Visitors can dock at Watch Hill, Ocean Bay Park or Ocean Beach, where cars aren’t allowed but there are still numerous eateries (Flynn’s is a staple) and services nearby. Additionally, Davis Park, only one mile from Watch Hill, provides beautiful beachfront and great service at its main restaurant/bar while Kismet is the westernmost party hub. The Surf’s Out restaurant is the top waterfront dining and dancing spot there. But the greatest concentration of bars, restaurants and shopping is in Ocean Beach. Don’t leave without stopping at Rachel’s Bake Shop.
LONG ISLAND SOUND MARINAS
The Sound provides a wide variety of boating experiences and culture and is known for popular cruising destinations, including Mystic and Old Saybrook on the Northern side and Northport, Oyster Bay and Block Island on the Southern side. Whether you are strolling the charming streets of Newport, visiting the old lighthouses in Old Saybrook, or partying on Block Island, there’s no shortage of activities in this popular boating destination.
One of the largest boat rental companies on Candlewood Lake is M.W.R. Boat Rentals. Candlewood Lake is an 8.4-square-foot lake in the western part of Connecticut. M.W.R. Boat Rentals has 10 different boats available for renters to choose from, as well as water skis. Boat rentals include the popular pontoon, which has a higher person capacity. This boat rental company is located at Echo Bay Marina at the lake.
Plan a weekend or day of fishing or fun with your friends and family at the mouth of the Housatonic River, providing access to Long Island Sound. Boardwalk Marina Boat Rental has a few boats to choose from. Their Angler 220WA walkaround is 22 feet long with150 horsepower, perfect for a day of fun on the water. Rentals can range from four hours to two days, though multiple day rentals are for weekends only. For fishing trips, choose from 18 or 20-foot boats. Prices are slightly lower than the Angler. Rentals are available for those 21 years of age or older with a driver’s license and previous boating experience. No boating certificate is required. In addition to rental prices expect sales tax and boaters are responsible for their own gas.
Lake Washining is located in Salisbury, Connecticut. At the local marina O’Hara’s Landing, those with a driver’s license can reserve a water vessel for a half or full day. O’Hara’s rents rowboats, small fishing boats, canoes and five pontoons. Rentals are available in the morning or evening. To save money, you can steal a cheaper price for p.m. rentals. Gas and life vests are included with each rental. Reservations are recommended so you can guarantee your plans don’t fall through. No boating license is required, however, you must have a driver’s license. Rentals are only for use at Lake Washining.
Longshore Sailing School at Longshore Club Park offers hourly rates for boat rentals. Available for rent are boats for up to a five passenger capacity, canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards. Walk-ins are welcome, however, reservations are recommended. The staff at Longshore Sailing School makes your rental experience hassle free with staff helping to set you up and launch into the open water. Child and adult-sized life jackets are included with your rental. Hourly rentals range from $48 an hour on the Hobie Getaway to $20 an hour on the Bug. more
Leave from the shoreline of Connecticut to enjoy a half day, full day or week long boat rental. Westbrook Marine Center provides easy access to Long Island Sound. Included in rental options are the 18-foot MayCraft with a five-person maximum as well as a 20-foot Hydra-Sports watercraft with a six-person capacity.
