See full version: Q: Power steering is very hard at low speeds and in reverse

My power steering is VERY hard, especially at low speeds and in reverse. Sometimes it acts likes there is no brake assist (seldom, but possibly related). There is a seep (not really a leak) in power steering hose I replaced last year. Seep may be because the hose is pressuring up so strongly. (?) I have replaced a hose a needle valve type thing in the pump and that seemed to help. That fixed the issue but it has returned.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Sounds like the power steering pump valve is failing or the pump veins are worn and causing aeration of the power steering fluid making the system not function at low engine speeds. Try putting the transmission in low and turning with the rpm’s higher. If the steering is still hard, then the steering angle may be off in your alignment. If the higher rpm’s allows the steering to be easier, the I suggest replacing the power steering pump. If you need further assistance with your power steering system, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

I drove 1 ton Ford’s in a fleet.
The era of your motor home chassis.
Quite a lot to handle in high wind and slickery.
It was systemic and Ford made lots of repairs.

The phrase “poor returnability” is used to describes a condition in which the steering wheel returns slowly to the straight-ahead position after a turn. Typically, the wheel will return to center position once the driver releases it. If return is slow, or requires you to manually move the steering wheel back to center, you should focus on these areas: more

My stingray did the same thing. Where I boat we have a large no wake zone. When I put some Nautica smart tabs on it the steering wander went away the boat tracks pretty straight now.

A My ALLDATA automotive database pulled up GM bulletin #05-02-32-008D dated July of this year that identifies the 4-bolt 680 steering gearbox as an upgrade replacement for the original 3-bolt 670 gearbox.

But before replacing the steering gearbox, make sure the serpentine belt is not slipping, the power steering system is full of the proper fluid, and no air is trapped in the system. The easiest way to bleed air from the system is to raise the front end safely with jack stands under the lower control arms, start the engine and gently cycle the steering from lock to lock several times, holding it at full lock only momentarily in each direction. Adding 2 ounces of Sea Foam Trans Tune to the power steering reservoir can help clean and de-moisturize the fluid and the steering gearbox. here

Q I have a 2007 Grand Caravan SXT and the right rear taillight has quit working. The brake, turn and backup lights still work. I have replaced bulbs, checked fuses, swapped left side taillight assemblies with right side to confirm it is not an assembly problem. My conclusion is it must be a broken wire between the front and rear of the car. [links]
