The elements required to ignite and maintain a fire will always be oxygen, fuel, and an ignition. Although gas appliances are extremely convenient, economical, and effective for home heating, homeowners should remember that they can be dangerous. One of the most dangerous points during the use of your appliance is the ignition. Be sure you are operating your appliance correctly, and that your ignition system is within regulations for safety. here

At Beach Stove and Fireplace, you can expect nothing but the best in products and value. We offer a full line of gas fireplaces varying in size, style, and brand. Many of our customers in Suffolk County prefer gas because of it’s efficiency and high heat output, but others love gas appliances simply because of their ease of use. Unlike a wood stove or fireplace where you have to handle wood, light a fire, and maintain it, gas is less work. Most gas appliances light with the flip of a switch, although there are varying methods of ignition. here

At Beach Stove and Fireplace we sell and install many appliances, and remove others. Of all the appliances that we repair, replace, and install each year, the ones we recommend to our customers are those equipped with the electronic ignition. They are coupled with a safety pilot and can work with a remote. Please note, that in our service area, match-lit ignition systems aren’t allowed, so we recommend our customers switch to the safer option – the electronic ignition. here

We know, conventional ignition systems use breaker points to trigger induction on the coil. In some time, the opening angle of the breaker point will shift because this is one of the moving parts and there is definitely a wear usage. So it needs an adjusment called dwell angle adjusment.

The conventional ignition system uses a distributor device to drive the breaker point, and to distribute the secondary coil voltage to each spark plug. This distributor device is connected to the crankshaft engine, so it can be said that conventional ignition systems overload the engine's performance.

Breaker point, has been replaced using a transistor while the distributor is replaced with an ignition coil module. The device does not work mechanically but works electrically so that it does not overload the engine's performance.

Most often, if there is a problem with the standing pilot gas ignition system, it is with the thermocouple or thermopile. These flame-proofing components need to replacing when that happens. However, there are situations where the pilot gas line gets fouled or clogged with debris or trash. In that case, the blockage will not permit the proper amount of gas to the pilot tip. A thorough cleaning of the pilot assembly is in order in this situation.

The thermocouple device, when heated, provides a small amount of voltage to a pilot solenoid valve. If the flame goes out, the voltage stops, and the pilot valve closes. That is a method of proving flame. With no safe method of proving a flame, it is possible to allow large volumes of gas into the area around the furnace. Thus the name, safety pilot.

The downside to the standing pilot, gas ignition system, is they require a pilot light all the time to function. That means the standing pilot gas ignition system needs to use gas all the time. Another downside to the standing pilot, gas ignition system, is it adds heat to the system even in the summer. This will cause your air conditioner to work a little harder to remove the heat. The heat added by the continuously burning flame of the standing pilot light inside the furnace. more

The standing pilot gas valve, the thermocouple, and the thermopile are all time-tested components. They are reliable and effective to safely light the main burners of a gas furnace, boilers, or water heaters. While the standing pilot gas ignition systems are prone to problems with proper maintenance, the standing pilot gas ignition systems are reliable for many years. Especially if proper and routine maintenance happens on these systems. more

Now that you’ve got everything (hopefully) installed correctly, it’s time to fine tune the installation by setting the timing. This is why you didn’t torque down on the distributor hold-down bolt when you replaced the distributor. Crank the engine up and disconnect and plug the vacuum advance line. Get the engine RPM into the ballpark (around 700-800 RPM) with the idle adjuster screw on the carb or throttle body.
