Born in a family with a musical background, Dalio chose to be on his own path to become a businessman. He started investing at age 12 when he bought shares of Northeast Airlines for $300 and was shocked when his investment was tripled after the airline merged with another company. Dalio reportedly earned $1.1 billion in 2014, including a share of his firm's management and performance fees, cash compensation, and stock and option awards, earning about $5.5 million every day. He even has given more than $850 million to philanthropic causes and had pledged $100 million to help public schools in Connecticut. As part of a public-private initiative to help disengaged youth in public schools, Connecticut’s Dalios and state government will give $100 million each toward a proposed $300 million project. They are calling on other philanthropists and business leaders over the next five years to contribute the remaining portion. Ray Dalio wife Barbara Dalio is always supporting her husband. Despite the sound results, the company kept its forward guidance unchanged from last quarter, predicting revenue growth for 2021 between 19% and 23%.
