However, you are left with the question of why you experienced such an early failure. If you don't find the reason for premature failure then it might just come right back. more

My suspicion is possible corrosion of the head gasket between an oil gallery and the exhaust cooling water or possible oil sump gasket. The worse case scenario is a corrosion/crack somewhere between the cooling water and oil.

Man, It sure sounds strange to get that much oil in the exhaust. I may be off base here but if you have a manual, it may show if there is a freeze plug or not. I have no idea that it would, or if it would be located around the base. Even so, you would think it would blow to atmosphere rather than to exhaust. more

Besides adding horsepower, Suzuki has also reduced the weight of the 140. A redesigned clamp bracket and trim system shaved off a few pounds, helping the 410-pound DF140 long-shaft (20-inch-shaft) weigh in at 6 pounds less than the 90/115. here

Suzuki is bridging the gap — at least partially — with its new 140 hp four-stroke, the first four-stroke outboard in this horsepower category. When Suzuki enters a market segment, it has a penchant for doing so with a technically impressive product. While there is no other brand now competing in this bracket, the new 140 continues Suzuki's tradition of technical superiority. Let's take a closer look.

Suzuki DF140 Four-stroke outboard delivers stellar performance.

An offset drive shaft shits the 140's center of gravity forward for better balance on the transom. here

I should maybe re phrase my question. I know for the old Mercs you could put a "top end" (power head and cowlings) on to a mid section that is 25" and reuse your lower unit to attain the 25" motor. I'm wondering if Suzuki sells the 25" midsection separate so I could do same. Or if anyone has done this? I think the trim/tilt gets reused too, but could be wrong.

I'm only just commencing my search for the new boat so would need to know if this kit readily available? as it will effect searching for boat-only versus a boat/motor combo.

commercial fisherman go through motors quickly and there is a good chance to find the midsection you need in pretty good condition if you ask around and it might come with a working lower unit ready to go.

Hello All,
I'd like to introduce myself as a proud DF150 owner (2007 model yr). I'm wondering if I can order a mid section extension kit for this engine. It's currently a 20" engine on a 20" transom and has run so flawlessly that I'd like to take it over to my new boat, which will be a 25" transom. more

everything can be reused except the shift linkage, drive shaft housing, water tube, and drive shaft but buying a new shift linkage, drive shaft housing, water tube, and drive shaft is out of the question for most peoples budgets. [links]

There is an identification plate attached to the motor mount bracket, usually on the right hand side. The plate has the outboard's model number stamped at the top and below it you'll find the prefix and serial numbers. The model number is self-explanatory, but to find the year of manufacture you'll need to compare the last digit(s) of the serial number with the Suzuki Outboard Model Identification chart on this page of our website. Cross-referencing the two you will see the year your outboard was manufactured. Job done!

Now you have the model number and year you can use them to find the Suzuki outboard motor parts that match your engine. You've reached the 1983 outboards page so click on your model from the above list. Doing so will take you to the OEM Suzuki marine parts page for your exact outboard model where you'll find hundreds of 1983 Suzuki outboard parts.
