Re: automotive oil in 4 stroke outboard
There is zero negative effect from using a non FC-W oil in a four-stroke outboard. FC-W oil has only been out a few years and up until the rating was issued there wasn't a problem with it. Having said that, FC-W oil helps to reduce fuel dilution and foaming. But that wasn't the question. The question was: more
Interesting thoughts are thought provoking, all the same.
"Whats the harm if you use a premium automotive oil of proper viscosity and keep oil changed regularly. "
When it comes to keeping the motor of your boat running nice and smooth, you will have to ensure that you use quality motor oil. The wrong oil might just cause your motor to malfunction prematurely – and with poor maintenance, there is a chance that even your engine warranty will not save you. For this reason, you will have to ensure that you only purchase the best 4 stroke outboard motor oil.
Since the product is made on a mineral oil base, it provides quite a stable clutch performance. This should protect your engine from further wear and tear – prolonging its life. Plus, aside from your boat, this motor oil can also be used on a variety of other engines, such as your car, your motorcycle, your ATV, and so on.
Mineral is likely the standard option that is used on pretty much any type of engine. Basically, mineral oil is refined petroleum oil that has also undergone treatment to function well at high temperatures. It also gets fortified with quite a lot of additives to function, and it has a lower price in comparison to other oil types. The disadvantage here is that you may have to change the oil often, as it tends to run out or get burned quite soon. here
It is very much like a car. But, keep in mind that the cylinders are configured in a horizontal position, not vertical. The outboard engine design, pools oil behind the pistons, and in a variety of castings, surfaces inside the block. Before checking oil level, tilt the engine at least half tilt, and wait five minutes. Then, return the engine to the vertical position. All the oil will be drained into the oil pan. Now, you will be able to read the proper oil level and/or vacuum it all.
Secondly, vacuum all of the motor oil from the oil pan. An extractor kit, like the one shown below, makes the process simple and quick. The transfer probe fits into the engine dipstick tube. This is a four-liter container with a self-priming pump creating a vacuum, allowing fluid to flow quickly with only 15-18 strokes. This Fluid Extractor Kit is manufactured by Moeller (SKU No: 8617961) and is available at your local marine wholesaler.
