Make sure that the vehicle side and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. The main connector grounds should be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces.
So it sounds like you are using an adapter like # 37185 or something similar. You need to make sure the adapter is grounded to the vehicle frame otherwise it will not work properly. [links]

It could also be a ground issue on the trailer. Ground problems normally show up when there is more draw on a system such as when you have the running lights on and then use another function like a turn signal or brake light.
Turn signal lites and brake lites work but running lites dont. I have a 4 pin flat connector. Not sure how good the grounds are on trlr. I had to use a converter to go from 7 points on trailer to 3 and the ground on the crv.
The light grounds should also be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. If there is anything between a light ground and the metal trailer frame or if the trailer has an aluminum frame, tilt bed, or folding tongue, any of these things can interrupt the ground. Running jumper wires from the light grounds to the main trailer connector ground can help. [links]
A ground issue would typically only affect one or two lights, not all of the running lights on the trailer. But it is possible that it is a ground issue. The main trailer connector grounds and the grounds for each of the lights need to be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. On the 7-Way connector, check to make sure there is no corrosion built up where the wires attach. [links]
we have a 7 to 7 adapter.. We have electric brake works fine turn signals and brakes lights on camper but no running lights on the camper but park lights on the truck. What is wrong?
If either trailer frame is aluminum or has a tilt bed or tongue then you will need to run jumper grounds from the lights to the main trailer connector ground.

Next test the adapter. This will tell you if there is a problem in the connector. If the problem is on the trailer, then a short on the running circuit is likely the problem.
The first thing you are going to want to do is use a circuit tester like # 40376 if needed and test the connector on your truck to make sure all of the functions are working. If they are not use the owners manual and/or the legend on the power distribution box lid to find the locations of any fuses or relays related to the tow package wiring and replace any that are faulty.
