Hayley’s jet ski and boat rental started in 2005 in Vero Beach as a family business. The owner Matt was retired at the ripe old age of 35 and, according to his daughter Hayley, he needed something to do. She wrote a business plan (at just 15 yrs old) and the ball was rolling. The business started with 2 jet skis and soon expanded service from Cocoa Beach to Fort Pierce Inlet. The family decided to start renting boats and to start a boat club in Melbourne because they saw a void in the market. Hayley’s bought Mariner boat rentals and Club Nautica, both of which had been in the Melbourne area for more than 20 years. The same phone number has been used for the boat rentals and club since 1985. The business has grown to be the largest rental fleet in Florida.

Faulty equipment, safety concerns!
My family rented a pontoon boat for the day from 321 Boat rental in Melbourne FL with plans to drive it to Sebastian Inlet for fishing.. read more 321 said the trip should take less than a hour one way and one tank of gas should be more than enough for the round trip. The boat was equipped with a 175 HP engine. We were told that they just replaced the prop but, they did not have the correct prop for the engine so they “used the only one they had". The incorrect prop caused the engine to have to work much harder and required more RPMs than it should to move the boat. Its top speed was about 15 mph. The trip actually took us 4.5 hours (round trip) and it used twice as much gas as it should have. The only instrument on the boat that worked was the RPM. The gas gage, AMP, trim gage and horn all were NOT FUNCTIONING.
The throttle control also would not work properly. When we return to 321, I told the worker helping us dock the boat about the instruments and horn not working and the problem with the throttle. He acknowledged the problems and said they had been trying to fix the throttle but could not get it working correctly. As for the horn and other instruments not working (a major safety issue) he said that is why there is a whistle attached to the ignition key. I explained all of my concerns to the person in the office and he said I had to bring it up with the manager the next day. When I finally reached the manager the I explained the problems . He said they could only offer me a gift certificate for my next rental. I said that I would prefer some form of credit for this rental. He said: "You don't go to a restaurant, order a mean, eat it and then not expect to pay for it" I said we are not asking for a full refund but at least some small credit for the substandard equipment. You do not go to a restaurant, order a steak, get served a hamburger (because that is all they have) and then get charged for a steak! BE ware of 321 Boat Rental! You may not get what you ordered. I will never trust them again with my business! [links]
