Additionally, the Jones Act requires that non-US flagged cruise ships visit at least one non-US port when on a cruise to the United States. This is why most cruises lines that originate cruises in the US visit Canada, the Bahamas, Bermuda, etc. and not only US ports.

It may be possible, but you would have to do extensive research on your own or get a cruise travel agent who can do this for you. If you want a recommendation (the one I use in Orlando,) PM me. more

I don't believe such a cruise, unless it is a repositioning cruise (i.e., to move the ship from a home port in New York to one in Florida, or vice versa) scheduled by a cruise line is possible. Generally, cruises that originate and terminate in American ports are closed loop, meaning they start and end at the same place and do not include the option to get off in the middle. That said, there are some exceptions (the repositioning cruises mentioned above and some limited others).

The Intracoastal Waterway between Florida and New York offers a great variety of coastal scenery to boaters. From the practically uninterrupted seascape panoramas of the Florida Keys up through the vast marsh-grass plains of the mid-South to the forests that hug the shores of the Wacamaw River, the outlook constantly is changing. Travelers can take in a variety of sights along the way, but should be mindful of regulations and preparations to ensure a safe journey.

The Intracoastal is not the Amazon, but provisioning for the journey should take into account all the days of traveling should something go wrong. Logistical problems are made more irritating if numerous trips to grocery stores must be made in a strange locale, where taxis have to be paid or transportation borrowed or rented from mechanics and marina staff. Change the engine oil, check out all the boat’s systems and ensure the weather forecast is favorable for both your vessel and your level of skill. Intimately familiarize yourself with refueling options along the route, and understand that changes in weather conditions – especially headwinds – can have massive effects on the vessel’s fuel consumption: At no point should your course “cut it fine” where fuel is concerned. here

So I was wondering, if you have a boat in Florida and want to sail to the Great Lakes or if you have a boat in the Great Lakes and want to go to south for the winter, Can You Sail a Boat From the Great Lakes to Florida without Demasting? In order to sail to the Great Lakes from Florida without demasting, requires traveling the St. Lawrence Seaway, but the inland canals are much shorter (and faster) so many boaters choose to demast and motor through the Erie, NY and/or Mississippi canal systems.

Once your mast is down, you need to consider how you are going to carry it. Many cruisers build a wooden rack for the mast to fit into on the deck of the boat. You must think about choppy seas and the wakes of fellow boaters – especially speed boats. Remember, not everyone is courteous on the water or even aware of what discomfort their wake can mean to a fellow boater. [links]

I traveled on the ICW from Charleston, South Carolina to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on several years ago and was impressed by the many different types of scenery along the way from the swamps to sounds and bays to Florida’s unpopulated Northern canals to its very populated southern canals as we approached Ft. Lauderdale. here
