It is very possibly you have fried both these ground wires and now have an electrically isolated e-box. With no ground going to the spark coil (you called it a CDI) you will have no spark.

This ground wire can be accessed from the pyramid domed cover on the front of the e-box. This is where the 6 pin connector (only 5 used) is located. someone else mentioned this earlier.

If it is a 1991 or later 550SX model there is a fuse inside the electrical box. Hooking up the battery backwards will blow this fuse. Please don't ask me how I know this.[links]
Someone will know and chime in, but check for an inline fuse in the Ebox. My buddy did that to my FX-1 out on the beach and it popped the fuse but everything else was fine.

The problem is it has no spark at the main plug leads. Previous owner told me this was the fault also.
Id like to know how to test the output of the trigger in the mag cover.
Ive put a 12v test light and earthed it direct to earth lead from the battery on the engine and probed the white wire going to the coil in the rear black electrical box where the starter solenoid is. The test light DID NOT flash. I tested this with the spark plugs out while cranking over. I tested continuity from the same white wire up to the large plugs at the mpem. There IS continuity.
