I think either you have a wire loom or connector problem, or you installed a second mpem that was junk just like the first one. Scratch that if it is new.

If you look at a 787 or 947 stator, there are no exciter coils at all, just the smaller but numerious charging coils. more

But DC ignitions do not use the exciter coil(s) at the bottom of the stator plate to supply the AC power to trigger the analog type ignitions, commonly found in older watercraft. [links]

You probably have a multi meter yourself. Use it to see if any power is being sent to the coil. But the stator has nothing to do with making spark on that motor.

Not until Sea Doo made the 787 did we have DC ignitions for the 787 and 947 engines only. The rest were the analog systems that will actually keep running if you remove the battery after starting them, just like a kick start motor. They use AC power generated at the stator plate from the magneto magnets rotating past them to power up their ignitions. The big coils on the stator plates make AC power too, but the rectifier converts it to DC power for recharging the 12 Vdc battery. Those coils are not part of the ignition system. [links]

All multimeter readings are good except when reading the white wire to black on CDI, manual says it's supposed to be something like 2 mega ohms, but both of my CDIs read zero. Is that right? Did I end up with a dud from eBay?

I have gone through all of the wires and pins, replaced a couple wires and trimmed back a few more. Swapped out the coil, wires, and boots with a used one from eBay. Have a brand new coil, wires, and boots coming in the mail.

You're the second person to tell me to check power into the CDI. I have yet to try it but will tomorrow. I already swapped out the CDI for a used one from eBay. Maybe I got a dud replacement. I tested both CDIs and the only reading that was off on both of them was between ground and white wire. Manual says something around 2 mega ohms and both of mine are 0. Not sure if im testing it wrong or something. I get voltage from CDI to coil when cranking though.

Hello, I have 99 challenger 1800 twin 787's. I have been having spark issues with my right side motor for last 4-6 weeks. Just a little update on what I have done thus far. more

now for the spark issues. The left side motor cranks up fine and runs great. The right side motor is SOOOO hard to crank (or get spark) but once I do it cranks every time after that for the rest of the day on the lake. It acts like after gets warm and broken its ready for day on the lake. Its just that first start that sometimes never happens. What I have done to fix this. I have removed the ignition box from right motor and put on the left motor and it cranks. I put the coil box from the left motor on the right motor and it still did not crank. I took the plug off the front on magneto and checked for corrosion and sprayed electrical cleaner and put it back in. I did a continuity test for the 4 wires from the coil box up to the mpem and i have continuity. Only thing I couldnt trace the red wire from the coil box ( I believe they head to the rectifier but not for certain). I have change spark plugs and put new ones in and still no luck. I have check the ground on the mpem and it checks good. I am checked the ground for the coil bock and it seems good too. I placed two jumpers from the mpem ground directly to battery and the coil box with still no luck. here

Took out all four rave valves and cleaned them and reinstalled with new gaskets.

Offered here is a replacement for the very expensive and now discontinued 278000746 mpem used with the 1996 Challenger Jetboat. Below is a picture of the conversion you'll receive back ready to install. I use a dess mpem for this conversion so you'll also need to include your dess lanyard(s) with your bad mpem so I can program to the replacement. Add $35 each if you want new aftermarket lanyards programmed and included.
