Additionally, what is choke position? Similar to the throttle, the choke plate rotates from a horizontal to vertical position to open up the passageway and allow more air to get by. The choke is located before the throttle, and manages the total amount of air going into the engine. The choke is only used when starting a cold engine. more

What happens if choke is left closed?

Basically it can't draw enough fuel with bad Diaphragm. If the engine only runs with the choke full on it means you have a vacuum leak and the engine runs too lean with the choke off. Some times a back fire into the carburetor will blow a pressed-in BB out of a drilled passage way.

If you have the NT carburetor the choke is on (closed) when the lever is up. If the engine isn't running it doesn't make any difference where it is. The choke should be off (open or down) when you're riding. more

Step 1: Wait until morning to check the choke. Check the choke and see if it is closed when the engine is cold.

This may require the use of hand tools, however, many times the air filter and housing are secured using only a wing nut that can often be removed without using any tools.

When you inspect the choke, you also get a chance to look inside the carburetor. If it’s dirty, you might want to consider cleaning out the whole assembly to keep the engine running smooth.

Once you close the choke, reinstall the air filter and housing onto the carburetor. [links]

The choke is located before the throttle, and manages the total amount of air going into the engine. The choke is only used when starting a cold engine. When doing a cold start, the choke should be closed to limit the amount of air going in. here

3 Answers. It will not damage the engine at all. All that will happen is that it will run richer, thus using more fuel. If you did it for thousands of miles you'd probably end up with more deposits in the engine/exhaust, but even that is easy to sort.

Beside above, how long should I leave the choke on? The choke usually "chokes" the air supply into the engine so it gets more petrol than usual. Hence it's name. You should start the bike from cold with half or full choke depending on how cold it is. After 30 seconds is usually enough for most bikes.

Also to know is, which position is choke on?

What is the purpose of a choke on a small engine? here

Choke has importance in a naturally aspirated gasoline engine. When the vehicle is kept stationary for a long time or in cold season, it may find difficulty in starting of the engine because gasoline droplet does not vaporize well in cold engine. In this situation in order to initiate and sustain combustion, the engine needs a rich mixture of charge. This can be achieved by closing the choke valve. here

Modern carburetors use spring-loaded type choke. It avoids the excessive choking after the engine is reached the desired speed otherwise the exhaust will contain a considerable amount of unburned fuel. Operation of choke made to automatic also by using thermostat so that choke closed when engine is cold and choke open when engine is warm.
