Even in small amounts while using a calibrated torque wrench, a lug nut can just turn and turn as the stud is being stretched past its yield point. Anti seize containers say they can be used on threaded fasteners, but almost never say to use them on lug nuts and studs because of serious liability.

Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly/Soft Soap: These are not commonly claimed anti-seize compound as they perform a function of lubricant than that of anti-seize compound. The usage of Vaseline/petroleum jelly/soft soap is not recommended on screws and fasteners. These cannot be used under high temperature and pressure. [links]

Dielectric grease is often used to seal the connection between spark plugs and spark plug wires. The grease does not conduct electricity, so it shouldn’t be applied directly to the mating surfaces (pins and sockets) of an electrical connection. here

Also, suppose I opt to follow the NGK recommendation an use no lubricant. How do I clear the remaining lubricant from the threads in the head?

First of all, let's see what is good about using lube: [links]

SPARK PLUG INSTALLATION TIPS . • NGK does not recommend the application of lubricant to spark plug threads as the resultant reduction of frictional forces at the thread faces will render the torque charts inaccurate and over tightening could occur .

For what it's worth, the back of the spark plug box itself has this advice: here

Using a torque wrench with dry spark plug threads is critical to preventing spark plug damage.

If you ignore this advice and apply anti-seize, you must reduce the torque setting on your torque wrench by 25%. If you don’t, you’ll over-torque the plug and damage it.

Most spark plugs have either a zinc or nickel plating that prevents the threads from seizing in the cylinder head. That’s different from decades ago when spark plugs didn’t have any coating and could seize in the cylinder head, making removal tough.
