I'm trying to determine what size wire I need to hookup a marine stereo (just a digital media receiver w/radio) on my 25ft pontoon. There is no circuit boards or switches. This boat does not have any guages or anything currently hooked up. My plan is to run the yellow and red wire from the stereo to a toggle switch and run the ground from the stereo to the toggle switch (lighted rocker switch), and then from the rocker switch run a black and red wire (in a jacket) back to the battery's positive and negative posts. Will need approximately 15-20 feet of wire. I will be putting an inline fuse back by the battery on the red power line. The stereo is a 200 watt stereo 50 x 4 (no separate amp or anything) and I will only be hooking up 2 speakers. I need to know what size of red/black jacketed speaker wire I need. I know I have some 16ga at home, but I've read several articles stating it should be at least 12-14ga if not 8-10ga. I've read that if you have too small of wire, it can cause your speakers to cut in and out or for the head unit to power off and on periodically.

If the length of the conductor is not more than 12-feet, and you wish to maintain a 3-percent voltage drop limit in the power distribution for a current of 22.7-Amperes, you will need a conductor of 8-AWG. If the conductor is to be more than 12-feet, you need to increase the conductor size to prevent the voltage drop from exceeding 3-percent. [links]

If your loudspeaker amplifier produces 200-Watts of output, we can figure its input of electrical power will be greater. Let us assume the efficiency of the amplifier is about 66-percent. This suggests it will need 300-Watts of electrical power. more

So, after a few weeks of rain and work conflicts I got to take our Sea Eagle 12.6sr out for the first time. Boy was I impressed! True, I had limited experience with only 2 other inflatables but right from the get go it was a blast. The SE is NOT just marketing hype. It is a solid, well made boat. It's not tippy even when standing up as I tried at the dock. I had the inflatable floor a little under inflated but it still felt solid and I could sense it absorbing ripples and small waves giving me a smooth ride. It's easy to get up on a plane and went a lot faster than I thought it would with a Tohatsu 6hp. The best feature is the external inflatable keel. Steering was crisp and precise whether planing or at low speeds. The other inflatables I tried had a tendency to wander and needed constant attention at the tiller to maneuver. In all I spent a solid 2 hours and traveled over five and a half miles, and didn't even drain the small internal tank. Not bad for my first time out. Can't wait to go again. Mark & Deb. [links]

*For optimal performance max horse power motor rating for the rigid inflatable drop stitch floor is 20hp motors

The SeaEagle staff is incredibly knowledgeable and timely in their support. The 12.6 inflatable is easy to put together. The only part that is a little tough is the plastic flooring.--- It took a few choice words! LOL. Pop your inflatable in the water, and maneuver waterways that a typical boat could not! ENJOY the waters!! [links]

We have been selling Sea Eagle Sport Runabouts since 1997. Since then they have been tested in all sorts of conditions around the world. They have been taken around Long Island (300 miles each trip) multiple times in seas varying from dead flat calm to 10 - 12 foot ocean waves in violent thunder storms. They've been used on the Yangtze River and on the Indian continent for fire and flood rescue work. These same boats are being used in these same countries by Fire and Police Departments for flood and rescue work on lakes, rivers, bays and oceans. Truly tested by time in all kinds of weather conditions these boats are as safe and seaworthy as an inflatable boat can be made. [links]

The outside drop stitch inflatable keel provides several unique performance benefits. First, it creates the ability to turn sharply and precisely in any direction. This is a true benefit when coming to a dock or motoring in crowed harbors. The inflatable drop stitch keel also provides extra buoyancy at the bow allow this boat to ride over waves rather than plowing through waves. This same feature in combination with large rear rounded tubes helps these transom boats get up on a plane far faster. Unlike other transom boats with an inside inflatable keel the overall performance of our Sea Eagle transom boats are far more precise, responsive, and stable in all sea conditions.

Most trips out how many people will usually accompany you on your boat? For 2 to 6 people a 18 to 20ft. pontoon boat should work For 6 to 10 people a 22 to 24ft. pontoon boat For 10 or more people only consider 24ft. and larger pontoon boat What percentage of time will be spent fishing on your pontoon boat? 70 to 100% should consider dedicated fishing model pontoon 10 to 70% a fish and cruise model pontoon Under 10% probably should consider dedicated cruising pontoon Will you want to cruise and pull water toys, or wish to pull adult skiers? Don't consider anything under 90hp. and a bit more motor would be even better yet. Are you planning any long cruises on your pontoon? Are you going to want camping capability? Are you or any family members sensitive to sunlight or burn readily?

If yes is the answer things such as a changing room with a Porta Potti, double Biminis with side kits, a grill and sink, plus seating that pulls out to make beds may all be important for you to be happy and satisfied with your pontoon boat purchase or renovation.
