I have never used Toilet bowl cleaner, so no advice there, but like above starbright products work well. If you get some staining that will not come off, use a hull compound like 3m. If it still is stained "wet" sand with 1200 grit paper. This works great to bring an older hull back to new. You will then want to put a good coat of wax on it. I prefer Woody's wax. [links]
I started out using the Starbrite stuff and just about wrecking my shoulder every fall from hard scrubbing. Then I tried toilet bowl cleaner and it worked so good it scared me off. Literally just wipe on with something that has a long handle, wait five minutes, and rinse off.

For many years, we’ve used CRC Mary Kate On & Off cleaner (www.crcindustries.com/auto), which is a very popular muriatic acid-based liquid cleaning solution designed to be mixed with water and applied to dirty boat hulls. This is a product to be used with care; it will burn holes in clothing, cause eye and skin irritation, and ruin upholstery. It’s funny how many are still surprised by this, of course without reading the ingredients. It’s muriatic acid, what did you think it would do if you spilled it on your clothes? more
ACID BATH
We tested two popular hull cleaners on the same boat to see which works best. Our subject bowrider sat at the dock from early May to late October. Parked at the dock with only occasional use all season allows the nutrients and algae present to lock onto the hull bottom, and create a nasty, tough brown scum barrier to clean in the post-season.
If it’s so caustic, why use it? It cleans so quickly with so little effort, it’s tough to beat it. To compare, we bought a leading biodegradable competitor called Slimy Grimy (www.slimygrimy.com). This cleaner has also been around for many years; its claim to fame is eco-friendliness. Available in powder or liquid form, Slimy Grimy has none of the caustic properties of On & Off; it won’t hurt clothing or paint, won’t cause rust on metal surfaces, and can be used without protective gear, although we recommend using eye and skin protection when using any cleaner. more
THE TEST
After mixing to each manufacturer’s correct specifications, we applied On & Off to one side of the boat, Slimy Grimy to the other. Using a stopwatch, we timed how long it took for each cleaner to work through the crud on a section of the boat, without touching it with a scrub brush. We then timed how long it took to scrub the hull completely clean, with no traces of grime. here
It is ideal to be used both for large and small jobs. Just dissolve a small amount of this cleaner in water and spray it on the surfaces for cleaning. more

I recently discovered Slimy Grimy for getting rid of rust in tanks. It works great and won’t hurt the paint.
I LEFT THE BOAT in the water for a week of scalloping & Fishing and got the nice stain line on the boat. My neighbor had some Slimy Grimy in a spray bottle & sprayed it on the line along with a rust stain from the dive ladder screws and it was amazing how Slimy Grimy cleaned the boat. more
