Per Merc its 200 hours or annually. If your plugs get boogered up even from normal wear and tear the ignition coil is going to work very hard to make those plugs spark. I dunno about you, but I don't keep spare ignition coils on my boat, And I certainly don't want to be out in a boat someplace and have the ignition coil start boiling out on me coz it's getting to hot. I suggest "Knot Waiting" till the engine dies anyway. (Sorry, I couldn't resist. )

If you are on a personal connection, like at home, you can run an anti-virus scan on your device to make sure it is not infected with malware.

Change marine spark plugs one at a time – spark plugs fire in a specific order and crossing a wire to the wrong plug can damage your engine. If you are going to remove all the spark plugs at once, label each wire using a marker and masking tape.

Use your spark plug gap tool to adjust the gap. Gently bend the bottom electrode in to narrow the gap or bend it out to widen it. You can also bend the electrode in by using a flat surface to apply pressure. here

The severity of these issues often comes down to the exact type of spark plug failure that has taken place, and what the root cause of such a failure was.

The engine’s management computer notates the misfire, and a check engine light is triggered as a way to make you aware of the issue, as a poorly running engine can lead to both drive-ability issues and an increase in harmful emissions. [links]

The following are common signs of a failing spark plug, which in any event would require further diagnoses and/or plug replacement.
