The company started in 1947 by Oddist W. Lee, who had a focus on manufacturing wrought-iron gates for all of the luxurious estates that were to be found in California. It was due to the requests of those around him that he started to design and market high-end patio furniture that would appeal to his target market. more

I have an old Starfire myself that i'm looking to restore. Figuring out what to do with that OMC Stringer I/O has been a major concern. It seems the consensus is to toss it and put in a Merc or something similar. The real trouble is that giant gaping hole in the transom. A company called SEI makes a conversion kit but it seems it's only for converting the old OMC Cobras and not for the OMC Stringers. So, I think I've resigned to pulling the entire transom and rebuilding it, filling in the fiberglass and recutting the hole for the Merc. If I remember to take pics and document my progress I'll either post it here or on thehulltruth.com.

Unfortunately it doesn't see that there's much out there on this but but here is a bit of info I ran across on Starfire boats. I have a few posts at the end of that thread. The one thing I have heard is that these boats are very well built and built by hand. here

Whichever way the Japanese venture goes, Freedman and his 37 employees can take comfort in the fact that they have already beaten heavy odds just by staying in business for 23 years. more

Not that Freedman has any illusions of easy riches. He knows what most American manufacturers know who have lost much of their domestic market to Japan: the Japanese import/export door often swings only one way.

Some 40 dealers currently handle Starfire across the United States with two, in the Lake Tahoe area and the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area, carrying the Starfire line exclusively. [links]

"You have to go through eight different levels before you get to the decisionmakers," said Williamson. "Everyone wants a piece of the action. Interpreters have to be hired and you have to pay them significant commissions to get to the right people."

I am impressed that you were able to track down the information… AND get back to me so quickly. Thank you for following up. Mark me down as a very satisfied customer. If I buy another boat, I will absolutely get another report. here

Best $39.99 I have ever spent. Boat History Report saved me on a $25,000 purchase of a salvaged boat that the owner "didn't know about". Boat History Report displays great customer service. They have been very accommodating in my search for a new boat! Don't hesitate to spend the money and save yourself from a huge mistake.

I am extremely impressed with Boat History’s thoroughness, promptness and unsolicited willingness to go the extra (nautical) mile to get its customers whatever information is out there even though the cost to the customer is extremely small in comparison to the amount of human research undertaken when things are less than clear-- as they were in this case because of the “unofficial”Hull ID #. Your finding this accident gave me substantial relief regarding the absence of a 12th digit in the Hull ID # and thankfully, it was such a small collision, that even my surveyor will, I think, be unconcerned. more

“With a strong presence in the center console and small performance outboard boat market, Checkmate makes a great addition to the Hustler family,” said Paul LoGiudice, Sales Manager of Hustler Powerboats. “With 84 years of history between the two companies and 32 different models of boats ranging from 18’ to 50’, it will appeal to the new customers who are looking to find an affordable boat while working up to a larger boat without the need of changing companies down the road.”
