Also, water is shut down on the docks because the pipes would otherwise freeze. So we have to use long hoses from pumps on land to fill our tanks. Which is, yes, a total pain. When people forget to empty the water out of the hoses, the water freezes, and you can be stuck without water until the sun warms things up again, or if you're in a hurry, you'll need to resort to some fairly undignified activities to defrost your hoses.
Yet here we are. And to be honest, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Well, the snow is. But it's been a few chilly months now and I still love #boatlife. more
Our boat is protected by bubblers, little underwater fountains that circulate the water to prevent ice from forming against the hull. That's how we don't get stuck in ice all winter. [links]

The best way to protect your boat from the elements is to cover the entire vessel with a polyvinyl or tarp cover.
Ensure no parts of the boat are exposed and provide enough clearance from the ground so vermin can’t access it. more

Two men I know of stand together and fish out of the S-14, a 17" shorter Sportspal, so less stable, and say they never have even been close to tipping over.

Another approach to having boat sides is to rig removable rails on an existing bass buster boat. Something like this product, but with stake pockets- so the rails can be removed for travel: more
Anyway, it is a possible option for someone not wanting to trailer a boat though you could certainly do that, too.

This 14ft Basstracker Jon Boat is a 2005 model and works great. Has been heavily used but no major damage or rust. The boat has a floor installed but the floor in the rear needs to be replaced. The bottom of the boat is in good shape. This boat also includes a 5HP Craftsman Outboard purchase just last year and runs great. Also includes a Minn Kota 55lb Trust Trolling Motor, a deep cycle 60amp battery and Minn Kota battery center, a fish finder that works great, seat, 2 gallon gas can, anchor, fire extinguisher, and extra accessories. Great Boat for beginners and lake fishing! The Trailer is a 1999 Basstracker Trailer. Works great but has rust and needs a new trailer light. Does what it's suppose to do! Both items have titles!
