5. Check the flywheel magnets for the proper strength using this rough test. Hold a screwdriver at the extreme end of the handle with the blade down, move the blade to within 3/4 inch (19.05 mm) of the magnets. If the screwdriver blade is attracted to the magnets, the magnetic strength is satisfactory. more

I cleaned the magneto on this 3.5 hp Tecumseh horizontal shaft engine. Its pretty old but I would love to get it running. I cleaned the carburetor. It doesn't have an air filter though. The spark plug looks clean. I cleaned out the gas tank, fixed the pull string. I was told it didn't have spark. What should i do now? Thanks

2. Check for the correct spark plug and for cracks in the porcelain, pitted or burned electrodes, excessive carbon buildup, and proper air gap setting. Replace if questionable.

*Except Intek single-cylinder vertical shaft engines and 825, 850, and 875 Series vertical shaft. For these engines, use the spark plug’s listed below (spark plug gap = .020″). [links]

Although several different spark plug’s may screw into the engine, using the incorrect one will result in performance problems and possible internal engine damage. Including total destruction of your small engine. Think I’m kidding? We’ve seen it happen folks.

look for the engine model no. on a metal tag behind the carb, if its tecumseh it will read like T6xx-xx, I know that Eska had originally bought lowers from clinton to get started in the biz. a picture would be nice. wards no. are hard to come up with, not much info out there. the tecumseh no. usually is the key to unlock the wards mystery. more
