Hi Ed.
Welcome to the forum go to top of page and do a search there is a lot of info here about pressure testing. ( pressure testing ). I just did it and a lot of threads come up very dangerous to do. must use very low pressure. all pontoons sit lower in the stern. what size motor do you have? Do you have any photos? What size diameter are your logs?
My first pontoon was a 1985 and it only had 19" logs and it would nose dive when a big boat went by. sold that one and bought a 1993 with 25" logs now it doesn't nose dive and we are very happy.
Our stern sits lower because we maxed it out with a 90hp motor.

I believe the plugs are to have a Tiny pin hole in them to allow for air expansion/contraction. here

I've heard you don't want to put any more than 1 or 1 psi into the pontoon when checking for leaks. You can rig up a fitting/pressure gauge/valve stem for a few dollars. Then check for air escaping by ear or warm soapy water. [links]

Many time I've seen posts about checking for leaks and pix showing what over pressurizing can do to a pontoon. I was cleaning out the garage and ran into a new Smith acetylene regulator and realized that by piping it into the outlet of my air compressor, I can double regulate.

Hope this give anyone ideas on what sort of gauge to use.

The outlet of the acetylene regulator is redlined at 15psi with a nice wide scale at the low end. My normal out pressure on my day to day work is around 4psi. more

When I tested mine, I used/made a water manometer, much more accurate than a meter, and cheep too, it was just a plastic fitting and length of clear tube. But do it on a day when the temp is constant and with the tubes out of the sun, or you'll go nuts watching the water rise and fall with the temp/pressure change in the tubes.

I have a hard time wondering why your dealer isn't up on this. I had the same problem with the rear starboard toon on my triple when I first got it home (I bought it used) and put it in the water. Luckily I got it back out of the water before water entered the toon and took it to a guy who was/is extremely reputable with welding aluminum pontoons and he fixed it. [links]

If the slosh test or soap test doesn't work, a fire station would typically have a thermal imaging camera, which can be used to check liquid levels in large tanks (think tanker truck). They might be willing to do it as a training exercise.

Where is it leaking?
Like we said before, "what goes in, must come out". So, if the water is still inside the pontoon, you may be able to see where it leaks out.

So we have two things to look at, where's the leak, and how to repair it?

I removed the drain plugs and installed and air chuck which you can get at your local hardware store for 2 bucks. Then I attached the Air Hose and filled the pontoons with air until I heard the air come out.
